Beyond Sushi is the name of the restaurant taking the Royal Wigs space

Well, uh, the headline kind of says it all ... just a quick follow-up to our post last Tuesday about the sushi-vegetarian place taking over the Royal Wigs space on Ihop Way on East 14th Street ... the sign is now up for the new restaurant...

Seeing this reminded me that I have never tried any of the places on the north side of East 14th Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue... like Hawkers... or Bite... or 211 New Taco Grill... any of these places worth a visit?

  1. Hawkers' specialty is Asian food, and they do it quite well. Moderate prices, and the helping of pad Thai is generous. Ask for Pauline, she's a sweetie! Bite can get crowded but their sandwiches are good. Only go in for a half, however --- they're filling. And while Riceton doesn't look like much from the outside, their food is surprisingly good. I've ordered there many times and never been disappointed. Hope the sushi place is good. I'll give it a try.

  3. I also like Hawkers. I was drawn in by the graffiti. :) They do an awesome tofu satay and nice small salads, and everyone who works there has been super-nice. I also like Riceton for classic NY-style Chinese takeout but vegetarian, like Sesame or General Tso's Tofu.

The Belfry bar across the street (near the Dunkin Donuts) is very pretty and seems to get a nice, subdued crowd, unlike the yelly sports fans on the north side of 14th.
