Development still planned for 75 First Ave.

On Tuesday, EVG reader Yenta Laureate spotted workers behind the plywood at the seemingly dormant 75 First Ave. near East Fifth Street (next to the Rite-Aid) ... the workers looked as if they were picking up some debris, clearing some brush...

Anthony Marano, the developer at 75 First Ave., confirmed via email yesterday that he is still planning on a rental building here, though there isn't any timeline for a start just yet.

A rendering from 2007 showed the development looking something like...

As we understand it, the new building would be a shorter, modified version of this... though we haven't seen any new official renderings just yet...

Previously on EV Grieve:
Developer: A shorter building in the works now for 75 First Avenue

  1. That's such a small space, I can't imagine how anyone could live in that kind of floor plan. Maybe a pilot for Bloomberg's 300sq-ft "singles apartments?"
Also as an aside - that Rite-Aid blows

  2. The last time that I went into that Rite-Aid... a man, presumably drunk, slumped over in one of the aisles. A shopper told one of the cashiers, who didn't do anything about it, such as call for a manager. She kind of shrugged.

  3. Thanks for F*CKING the entire east village / LES with these BULLSH*T building height loopholes, DOB, BLOOMBERG AND CITY AGENCIES. One more in the developers pockets at the cost of New Yorkers. This sh*t would NEVER fly on the west side!
    HELP!!!
This cr@p will block my views all the wayon Ave C!!

  4. "Bloomberg's 300sq-ft "singles apartments?"" this is such a giveaway to the developers - and perfect for the transient housing for which doomburg has such a hard on

  5. 10 floors shorter would be nice...

And, don't knock the Rite Aid! Yeah,I know it's a dump, but I rely on it heavily both for TP and entertainment.

Besides, doing away with the Rite Aid will only result in something much, much worse for that corner.

  6. Last I checked, some clever individual got a stop work order put on this building because its on the same block as a school.

Didn't help that the people who demolished the building that had been there almost demolished the building to the left along with it. The guy in charge should have had the book thrown at him but probably only got a slap on the wrist.

SO much illegal construction and contracting going on in this city - wonder what percent of workers are actually legit.

  7. I am sort of giddy that something I did made it onto EV Grieve. I stacked those tires and put that board on top of it. Made a little mini version of the great wall of china with some bricks as well right about where the workers are standing. Was hanging out in that lot a good deal. Its the woodsyist area in the village.
