The 24th Annual Tompkins Square Park Riot Reunion shows took place this past weekend with free concerts ... while we were there yesterday, it was mostly a low-key affair... a lot of bands, some speakers... Toward the end of the set by Yuppicide, the last band of the day, a man with a "flaming Swastika tattoo" on his chest was chased out of the Park after he took a few swings at people in the crowd... and it's on video.
It carried over from the day before, when the same man, joined by a female companion, were throwing punches. Also on video here.
Meanwhile, on a more peaceful vibe, here's Mickey Leigh joining David Peel for a song on Saturday...
nazis tend not to be good socially.
ReplyDeletethere were ambulances in the park around 6 PM. i was reading a book with headphones on and did not investigate. but many ambulances along 7th street between A and B near where the entrance to the stage area is.
ReplyDeletewho's park our park..
ReplyDeleteThese concerts should not be allowed. I work the night shirt for work and I cannot sleep as I live by the park. I even tried putting in earplugs but the music was still too loud.
ReplyDeleteAgreed anon. The CHarlie Parker Jazz Festival is the worst. He was a chronic heroin addict. Why are we celebrating a drug addict by having thousands of people flood the Park on a Sunday every year?
ReplyDeleteJunkie business.
ReplyDeleteCharlie Parker, like many artists and musicians was a lot more than just a Heroin addict. To call him that shows a vast lack of understanding of his music, and music in general. Im not defending the festival, just Bird specifically, I have mixed feelings about most of the music festivals that go on in the park. I know I shouldnt respond to trolls, but Bird is someone I take seriously.
