"The tenants of this building are not responsible for helping you get into the building or assist you with renting apartment... Therefore, it is unacceptable for you to ring random buzzers all night. It is disturbing to residents who have an expectation of being left along by strangers."

They just should be thankful the occasional late night buzz is the only dealings they have to have with these guys, think about that poor sap that was standing on the street corner expecting to see an apartment...
ReplyDeleteAnd don't get me wrong, I wouldn't help either... I once lived and was moving out of a building. One Sunday morning get and I get this buzz.. imaging waking up to and rude agent on the otherside demanding "Here to show the apartment"... my response "who the fuck is this" lets just say no agent got into my apartment and the owner rented the apartment to someone smart enough to understand how to use craigslist and get a no fee apartment...
lol, the agent started taping nice "please can we show the apartment, when is convinent for you" notes on my mail box...
Apartment brokers in NYC...yuck. They are barely human.
ReplyDeleteThe problem exists because people buzz in anyone for any reason: wrong apartment? -- sure. pizza? -- why not. here to see the apartment? -- OK.
ReplyDeleteMuch of the insult to privacy these days exists simply because ordinary folks seem to have forgotten (or maybe never learned) to say "No."
ReplyDeleteWant to know how bad it's gotten in this (Ben Shaoul-owned, Josh Evans-managed) building? They just rented the former laundry room out to a young lady to live in, probably for $4K a month (seriously). I hope she likes rodents because there's a veritable rat farm right outside her window.
The laundry room is rented? Who would live in that rat haven with 10 overflowing garbage cans at their doorstep?
ReplyDeleteIt seems impossible someone can't find a better place to live.
And as far as the brokers, they buzz every single apartment and they sit on each buzzer for about 10 seconds each, up until 10 pm some nights. Makes me yearn for the days (last year) when the buzzers were broken.
Plus I cannot believe the super didn't take this down immediately. Something is afoot.
ReplyDeleteI got out of the shower in my aveC apartment - two frat bromorons standing in my living room going through my stuff. This about 24 hours after I'd given notice to move out. The landlord had given them the keys to my apartment...told them to let him know if they wanted to rent it. I told them I was Mossad and they ran away. Criminal broker scum and greedy frat boys. This neighborhood is disgusting frat house sleaze fest. Third generation east villager and I can't take the fratmosphere any more.
ReplyDeleteCitihabitats brokers have been letting themselves into Inhabited apartments in my building...while the tenants are in the apartment - no knock, no ringing of the buzzer. Entitled rich people want access to underclass hovel NOW. Tenants naked, sleeping, whatever, and then a bunch of slack jawed trust fund NYU brats come in wanting to know where to put the beer bong and the 160" flat screen TV.. Neighbor put a note on door "pit bull inside. Enter at own risk" and that shut it down fast. Too bad it wasnt just an empty threat.
ReplyDeleteWhat's particularly atrocious is that if a couple of black/Latino/brown guys "let themselves into" inhabited apartments there would be NYPD and shoot to kill and body bags. But a couple of white dudes with Kappa whatever baseball caps and $200 shower shoes show up with their bankster parents' wire transfer and they get to rape and pillage this neighborhood all they want, no consequences, no questions asked. Go ahead. Pukeyour thousand dollar bills on the poor folks. We love it.
ReplyDeleteI would imagine that most of you got your apt with a broker that had to buzz in to the building to show you the apartment. This is not the brokers fault. They're just doing their jobs. Blame the owners/mgmt for not caring enough to coordinate times when broker access is favorable for all parties.
ReplyDeleteI second that last comment. Its the landlord or management fault. Brokers have a job to do just like everyone else. If they are given keys or given instruction to buzz in building and apartment door open. Whats wrong with that. All these hate speeches toward brokers, they are human and have families to feed. All you have to do is not buzz if not comfortable doing so and go about your day. If the agent/broker is rude then thats a problem but don't condemn all Brokers for a few bad apples.
ReplyDeleteYeah we all have jobs to support ourselves- that doesn't mean we can be disrespectful as we go about doing our jobs. They know what they are doing- they are supposed to have a key to enter the building and either keys to the units if vacant or a liason with the super or tenant to work out times that they can show the place. They make a lot of money per transaction so I expect them to work for it, not to get so excited for the fee that they act like assholes.
