We've been curious about what would take the corner retail space here at the Copper Building on Avenue B and East 13th Street ... home of million-dollar penthouses.
There was an a rumor about a 7-Eleven opening here... But that is simply not true — the retail-space-for-lease ad specified no delis or laundromats.
In recent weeks, workers have put up brown paper on the windows... and we finally got a look inside.... Let's see, packages of undershirts...
... and plastic toys for kids...
Looks like a 99-cent type of store ... like the ones remaining around the corner on East 14th Street. We asked a broker here last week for information on the new tenant, but never heard back.
Previously.
That really sucks for the owners, but I hope they weren't expecting Marc Jacobs on Avenue B just yet...but maybe some day?
ReplyDelete@Anon. 9:10 - Christ, let's hope not. Subway is bad enough.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very awkward space to say the least. There are strange nooks and crannies in this space due to the massive columns supporting the building but make for a pretty useless retail or office space. Poor planning by the architects INHO.
ReplyDeleteIt will be a 99 cent store. It's the same owners of the 99 cent store around the corner on 14th St. Not sure whether they're moving or opening another location. I wonder how the fancy-pants residents of the Copper/Crapper building feel about their investment now?
ReplyDeleteHalf the shit I own was bought at a 99 cent store.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Karim... Do you know which 99 cent store? There's a rumor that a good portion of that block between A and B will be knocked out for a new development...
ReplyDeleteIt's the one called "East Side 99 Cents" next to La Isla Restaurant. The people who work there are really nice.
