A shot in time: First Avenue and East Ninth Street in 1981
EVG reader William Klayer shared this photo that he came across ...looking west out of his former apartment window on First Avenue and East Ninth Street...

is that where there's a little pizza place now?
ReplyDeleteYes, East Village Pizza, which has been there at least 15 years now.
DeleteCool. Here is the same corner, different angle, a few years earlier, courtesy of Flaming Pablum:

I wonder if William Klayer saw the Rolling Stones shooting the "Waiting on a Friend" video around his building that same year. If I recall correctly, a series of E Village neighborhood scenes ends at the old St. Mark's Bar, exactly 1 block south of William's old building.
ReplyDeleteAnon. 8:43 - 'Waiting on a Friend' was shot the summer of 1980 on the stoops of 96 and 98 St. Mark's Place, the buildings Led Zeppelin used for their Physical Graffiti album covers.
ReplyDeleteThe old block, how cool...
ReplyDeleteThere was a vintage store (I think called Rose's Vintage) in between the Natural Foods place and EV Pizza (my go-to slice in the EV, btw). Nice pic....
