Water is rushing down Avenue C according to multiple residents... Here's is East Seventh Street and Avenue C...
Via @nsj806
And we witnessed that flashing light and explosion... people on Avenue C said that a Con Ed transformer blew, though the green light was witnessed south of the substation... Car alarms blaring from East Seventh Street to East 14th Street... lights flickering...
Saw the sky light up a few times, crazy green flash... This shit is officially getting real...
ReplyDeleteJust had the power flicker off for a few seconds then back on in our building on East 6th Street...
ReplyDelete- East Village Slav
I THOUGHT I saw the glow of an explosion!
ReplyDeleteI was sitting here on Allen between Stanton and Rivington facing east. I saw a strange bluish glow in the sky in the distance. It did NOT look like lightning but an explosion. It lasted a good four seconds. It had to be the explosion!!
how high is the water on C ???
ReplyDeleteWas looking out the window when that happened... I am at 9th and a and it came from directly behind the big industrial building with the 4 smoke stacks on 14th...
ReplyDeleteNo power at 5th st btwn 1st and 2nd. Related?
ReplyDeleteNo power on 5th street btwn 1st and 2nd.
ReplyDeleteNo power at all in block of 3rd and A
ReplyDeleteFriends on 10th between 1st and A just lost power. Friend on 23rd and 3rd just lost power. Friends at 13th and B heading West for fear of rising water.
ReplyDeletePower is now out on avenue D. Total darkness. Lots of cops.
ReplyDeleteHeard a noise and saw green light to the east- just after 8:30. We're at 1st and St Marks. Lost power a few minutes later.
ReplyDeletePower, even emergency lights, out here at 150 7th. Those emergency lights didn't go out even for the August blackout few years ago.
ReplyDelete9:43pm - Con Ed reporting that the substation at 14th street is currently offline. (You heard it hear first with the explosion reports!). Many are without power because of this substation going offline.
ReplyDeletevideo from Brooklyn of Con Ed plant at 14th street blowing:

Hope everyone is alright. I'm getting cabin fever...I need to get out! Sandy, go away!
ReplyDeleteOh I can assure you a transformer exploded at the 14th St Con Ed plant. It blew twice, and the 2nd time is when we lost power. Don't know why they're not saying anything about it on 1010 wins! The Con Ed spokesperson was interviewed over an hour later, and when asked about the explosion he said he'd heard something on Franklin St had blown, causing the power outage. No way he didn't know about the straight up EXPLOSION over here!

ReplyDeletethank you so much for posting SOMETHING! i went to my boyfriend's on the UWS, and the news has really done the neighborhoods surrounding the Battery injustice. Absolutely no news about the 14th st and FDR ConEd station blow. Hi guys, we are important too!
ReplyDeleteHello? Hello? Anyone left in the EV?
ReplyDeleteGlass walls from the top floor terrace at the hideous Standard East hotel on E.5th st. crashed onto the roof of 207 E.5th st. and metal crashed into the courtyard of 207. Watch they just replace the glass on the terrace and don't do anything about an extremely dangerous design flaw.
ReplyDeletedoes anyone know if flood is receding from avenue C? is it flooded ave D? is it safe to walk?
ReplyDeleteI'm gittin' a lil' ascared heah!
