For some reason, I was standing around Cooper Union's 41 Cooper Square the other day. I was on the east side of the building that faces Shevchenko Place/Hall Place when I looked up and... well. Is that a dent?
There are perforated panels and there are dents. Can't say for sure how long that it has been this way. I couldn't find a good photo of this... here's a dent-free image via Google dated August 2011...
Anyway. Any ideas what may have caused this?

In an email, an EVG regular figures the building is being used for stealth intergalactic missions, and a piece of space junk dinged the building on a return trip. Seems plausible.

ReplyDeleteIn my professional opinion, it looks like an alien spacecraft crashed into the side of this monstrosity.
ReplyDeleteMaybe its from flying debris during sandy? too boring, I know, sorry. Maybe, well, maybe some NYU girl hit the building w a Coors Light bottle. Something like that, its Monday.
ReplyDeleteI think that arrow made that dent, which is mind boggling since the arrow would've not been drawn if the dent wasn't there in the first place. Kinda like Terminator; if Kyle Reese didn't go back in the past from the future, then John Connor wouldn't have been born. I guess just part of this wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey, paradox stuff. Sorry, still digesting the turkey that I didn't have.

ReplyDeleteWell, I'm not sure that the arrow could have done this. We've had some severe budget cuts here, which led to a downsizing in the size/width of the arrows. Pre-budget cuts, maybe. Those arrows were pretty bulky!
Well from the angle of the arrow, and it looks like it's traveling at a considerable velocity, that arrow can make that impact and dent.
ReplyDeleteIt was that damn vigilante Spiderman! He's a menace to city!
ReplyDeleteWas someone swinging something out the window? So strange.
ReplyDeleteWarning shot from the Death Star.
ReplyDeleteThere's also a big crack in the front of the building that looks like some kind of accident to me as well.
ReplyDeleteWarning shot from the Death Star.
ReplyDeleteWhen has the death star ever fired a warning shot?
The building is already so ugly, that I didn't even notice the "damage", and I live right across the street from it.

P.S. "Starchitects" must die.
ReplyDeleteDon't you people know art when you see it?
ReplyDeleteThe roof of a water tank further down 7th street flew off and hit the building. The wooden wreckage of it was sitting on Hall Place beneath the dent that Tuesday.

ReplyDeleteThat's what they WANT US to believe. It's a good cover story. Still have to go with something more plausible, like a hit-and-run with a TIE Fighter.
