Here's your new Duane Reade signage on First Avenue; plus — will they keep the clock?

Oh! Back in May, a tipster told us that the Duane Reade on East 14th Street was moving into the former HSBC branch (the one that some residents tried to save) on First Avenue just north of 14th Street. Signage is now up. Think that clock that never has the right time will stay?

Anyway, a drug store is sorely needed here... as neighbors would have to walk directly next door to the CVS otherwise.

And the Duane Reade around the corner will eventually close ...

We Grievestrated the move on Oct. 2 ...

The soon-to-be-former Duane Reade space remains on the market (PDF) ... Seems like a perfect spot for a Walgreens!

  1. Maybe the CVS will switch spots and move into the old Duane Reade space on 14th. Then the new Duane Reade, in its new 1st Avenue space, will take over the CVS space next door and turn it into Cafe Duane Reade.

  2. I'm still trying to get past the bit about some residents trying to save a bank. Is it backwards day?

  6. I love the word, "Grievestrated." Is it a verb? I'm going to try to work it into conversation today.

  8. Miss Love Drugs on that SW corner. The HSBC that was a CS-oriented bank (before it absorbed by some C bank). I don't miss the EV any more, just my memory of it. Absurdity is putting it mildly - banks, chain stores and rich idiots.

  10. Maybe a Gristede's? The way it was before Duane Reade took over? It would be nice to have another supermarket around...

  13. The answer to the highly anticipated question of "Will the clock ever tell the right time again?" the answer is...no....because where the clock once was is now a beautiful, big "DR." No point in keeping a little bit of history to the building, of course!
