At 9:12 a.m., there were 7 people waiting for McSorley's to open
The other two people were across the street having a cigarette. Anyway, I expected more people by now.
The bar opens today at noon.

I loved how (relatively) quiet yesterday was, compared with years past. At least on Ave A. Too bad the weather has improved and all the woo-hoo drunks will be out in droves today.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't out too much ... but it seemed far less woo-ey than I was expecting. Saw a few packs around the Village Pourhouse ... and a few other places advertising being a St. Patrick's Day Parade HQ...
ReplyDeleteYesterday. Was. Perfect. Got a movie from two boots and will be doing errands today. I figured everyone I saw yesterday were from jersey and LI. Maybe 20 people total. Hopefully people have jobs and have to work tomorrow... Hopefully...
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, what do the employmentststatistics look like for march 18?
They were more spread-out throughout Manhattan. They were in midtown, Murray Hill, and Upper East Side. And most of them were young so they probably had a curfew. The regular douchebags avoided the green douchebags and went home to their mommy and daddy in Connecticut. And unlike Santacon where they happen to congregate in the LES and EV. Seems like that these neighborhoods are magnets for douchebaggery.
ReplyDeleteYep, quiet, altho Second Avenue did have strolling mobs of them in green beads and shamrock antlers fairly early on. Scene for Saturday - 1;45 PM, The Belfry at 222 East 14th Street, a young man already so drunk he was bent in half expending voluminous quantities of splashing vomit onto the sidewalk; his girlfriend was helplessly patting his back and looking like she was trying not to cry as they were screamed at by a guy from 224 who did not appreciate the wading pool of hurl that was accumulating by his building's front door. I chimed in, excoriating them for polluting our neighborhood with their stupidity and emesis, a man standing nearby observing yelled that he agreed with me, and a good time was had by almost all.
ReplyDeleteThe 'leper-con' crowd' yesterday in Midtown was disgraceful. Stupid St. Patrick's Day hats and t-shirts and 20-somethings literally puking their brains out on 7th Avenue right in front of Penn Station. Referring to these people as morons would be giving them too much credit. Trust me, I've done my partying, getting hammered and what have you. But as fucked-up on liquor as may have been I don't think I ever fully forgot that there's something called common-fucking-decency. Whatta buncha low-lifes!
ReplyDeleteWasn't the mayor trying to stop Holiday pub crawls or did I imagine that? It seemed alot mellower then Santicon.
ReplyDelete"polluting our neighborhood with their stupidity and emesis"! nicely done, Gojira.
