Checking in on the $1 pizza war on First Avenue

Speaking of pizza... The third East Village 2 Bros. Pizza location opened on First Avenue near East 14th Street on Feb. 15 ... Flashback!

The sign battle has escalated here as this photo by Dave on 7th shows...

The 10-year-old Vinny Vincenz certainly has the advantage, serving a variety of homemade items (eggplant parmesan hero, woot!).

Per Eater's Greg Morabito: "The regular $2.50 slice is easily three or four times better than one of those crummy pieces of wet cardboard served at 2 Bros., or at any of the other dollar slice joints in the area."

  1. Want Vinny to come out on top but the sign wars are making a visual mess of the hood, plus taking up walking space on an already super busy and crowded section of 1st Ave. Didn't and don't need 2 Brothers in a section over saturated with pizza. They pushed the sign thing over the top.

  3. amazing that 6 blocks down from all those $1 spots is South Brooklyn Pizza, charging $4 a slice. I'd rather pay $4 for awesome than $1 for total crap.

  5. 6 blocks down for a $4 slice of pizza, not everyone is made of money or has a trust-fund, you know. A slice of pizza has an average cost of 10 cents to 25 cents (on the high-end like that much beloved Brooklyn pizza) to make. So, for a $4 pizza, you do the math on their profit margin. A $4 slice of pizza gratifies the infantile needs of the trust-funders. Their hidden, deep belief in their own worthlessness makes them strive for high-end pizza, where a false sense of power temporarily lifts them up.
Pizza is just flour, cheese and sauce. When even pizzas are being made into a status symbol, then nothing is safe. Next thing you know there'll be making a high-end hotdogs. Oh, wait.

  6. cost 10 to 25 cents per slice to make pizza hahahahahahahhahahahahahahhahaha, that's the funniest thing i've read today...you wish you knew what you where talking about. A average pie takes little over a 1 pound of cheese, 1 pound of good domestic mozzarella cheese cost about $3.00 per pound,(italian mozz is closer to $7 per pound) now lets do the math together ...$3.00 divided by 8 equals .37 cents per slice and that's just for the cheese and nothing else...not counting dough, sauce or labor....to clear things up those .99 joints make a approx 15 cent profit on each .99 slice using processed cheese, no frills flour and bottom of the line canned sauce....but on saying that, you know what you can do Mr Anonymous---> go shopping for cheese, flour and sauce and then come down to our pizzeria and show us how to make a slice for 10 cents, we want to know your secret lmao.

  7. You must be shopping in Union, Citarella, or Whole Foods Market. Try that again where the prices are wholesale and direct from distibutors. Retail is only for suckers, much like the $4 pizzas.
