Former Lucky Cheng's honky tonked; let's graze the menu!

Workers continue to transform the former Lucky Cheng's on First Avenue into Pride and Joy BBQ...

Meanwhile, MenuPages posted their menu, which includes "snacks & big bites" and "Grazin'" sections...

There is a Guy Fieri vibe here with items like Myron's "Cupcake" chicken ... Bowl 'O Burnt Ends ... Pulled Pork Egg Rolls...deep fried 'smores brownie... you can wash it all down with a Big Texan or Mountain Cooler. Welcome to East Flavor Town!

  1. Lucky Cheng's had the best drag queens...One of them almost fooled me. Then my friend spoiled all the fun.

  2. It's not the food that bothers me as much as the people who will be eating it.

  5. More authentrification. Just what we need.

  6. I like the distressed exterior. At least aesthetically it fits in unlike all those glass box "I can see you chew" exteriors they do these days.

  7. I don't care for the fake distressed signage. If you are a tourist you might mistake this for authentic, but for us, we know this shit is brand new, so it's insulting and rings hollow. Besides that its a very mall food court-y look. You know those slightly newer, slightly upscale suburban outdoory malls? This is the kind of signage you find there.

  8. They have another location in Miami...

  9. I don't think the menu looks bad at all. It's BBQ, so southern food...no surprise there are fried items on there. And Myron Mixon, unlike Fieri, is actually well respected in the food/BBQ community.

  10. That's way harsh, Tai! No but seriously, that seems like an unfair comparison. I looked at the menu and they seem to have the standard BBQ fare (ribs, pulled pork, brisket) for the most part except those few items you mention.

Also, not a bad beer selection.

  11. I just can't bring myself to order the moron inspired food names- I have no problem ordering a Quesedilla but "One Art Vandelay, please" will never spring from my lips.

  12. The cupcake chicken you refer to isn't some "flavor town gimmick" as you suggest. It's how he prepares his competition bbq chicken entry using muffin pans to keep the chicken thighs a uniform shape for presentation to the judges. It also tastes fucking awesome. I had the pleasure of taking a comp bbq class at Myron's house in GA last summer. He is legit, not some made for tv bozo.

  13. What the hell? This used to be Cave Canem and we are discussing the artfullness of the faux distressed walls? Turn out the lights, it's over.

  14. I live around the corner and am already planning on rerouting my walk to the train to avoid that side of the street. This is a complete nightmare... and it will fail. If you want this type of food, everyone knows the best place for it is the Dallas BBQ place on St Marks and 2nd. All the other BBQ places fail around here. Just look at the place on 2nd Ave and 6th street which replaced the wonderful Vandaag... It is always empty....

  15. Oh please, if the exterior had been painted to look brand spaking new, you would be bitching about it as well.

Not true, I walked by there today and there were at least 3 people inside.
By the way, this used to be 103 2nd Avenue...next to a gay disco called "The Saint". (I kid you not). That place was run by Yagi, who now has quite a few Japanese places in the neighborhood. Open 24/7/365 this place always had reliable food and service. I worked at night and was always happy to have a place to go to at 5AM.

  17. SCREW this new place & who gave a fuck about Lucky Cheng's except tourists.

Dallas BBQ isn't what I call good BBQ.

And as far southern/cajun --still missing ACME.
