Vandal(s) place glue-like substance on Citi Bike seats along East 10th Street

EVG reader Andrew G. passes along these photos this morning ... noting that someone placed a "glue-like substance" on Citi Bike seats parked on East 10th Street next to Tompkins Square Park.

And artfully so from the look of the swirl...

  2. What a sad loser move.
Hope they accidentally glued their hand to their favorite body part.

  3. yeah! that'll show citibank/bike! when some EV resident gets his/her clothes ruined by someone with toddler-level intelligence!

i liked the anti-citibikers better when they confined their temper tantrums to the interwebs.

  7. I thought that

NY was not Amsterdam was not Toronto etc

    These bikeshare would never last

Cold weather would render them useless anyways

That said, why not let bikeshare die a natural death

Rather than engage in this petty vandalism

People think they are battling the establishment, really they are just making life more annoying for all of us. thanks a lot critters.

  12. Oh please. They're bikes, not the Mona Lisa. Stop acting like something sacred or irreplacable was destroyed.

please don't think that everyone in your "woo generation" is a woo-er. i happen to be in the same age group and i am certainly not a woo-er.

  14. Where was your whining when Citibank stole $100 billion from us? That's $100,000,000,000 dollars.

    *crickets*

Who on earth defends Citibank and their sponsorship of Citibike? Who actually says "Gee whiz, I love bank bailout bike sharing! Golly Wally, this sure is neat!"

  16. A-holes like this don't care for anything or anyone; so they piss or shit or vomit or paint on anything/anyone that they want. Now, if they were caught and hit over the head with a baseball bat or other conveniently located hard object into next week or month, they would think twice before ever doing that again. Incivility will never be cured by civility. Only severe consequences to being caught will minimize future problems. Good luck with that!

  17. the comments in here are absolutely ridiculous. you people are acting like something useful or valuable was vandalized. what's actually remarkable is that vandalism of these fucking bank advertisements isn't happening all the time.

    @Shawn AMEN!

  19. As Cameron Diaz approached the Citi Bike, she said: “Oh good, some hair gel, I could use some, I just ran out.”

    Also, ditto Shawn.

  20. That glue on the CitiBike seats is there to help newbie cyclist renters from falling off of the bikes. They also put some flie on the little handlebar baskets to help secure small children in place. Does that clear things up? As they like to say at Citibank, "I'm from corporate. I'm just here to help."

  21. Without the citibank advertising I bet there'd have been a lot less animosity towards them.

    ReplyDelete
  22. They are garish nightmares. I hate the very sight of them.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Can we start calling them Blue Bikes instead of Citibikes so we stop propagating the advertising?

  24. Never surprising to see folks on this website equate anti-social behavior with anti-capitalism or anti-corruption. Reminds me of the person on here who said they give the finger to everyone when they walk by Starbucks.

I do hope and pray that one day one of our lively neighborhood crusties breaks into your flats and takes a huge dump on your living room floors.

  26. If we turn these pages back a few weeks, months or years, the vast majority of you would be applauding those who destroy property through vandalism to support their own agenda. Let's keep this consistent -- no one has the right to destroy someone else's property because it offends their taste, even if it is a 7-eleven.

And, for whatever it is worth, the US gov't earned a significant profit on its Citi investment, unlike the bailout of the auto industry, the steel industry years ago, the defense industry, the S&L bailout in the 1990s, etc., etc. Please, stick to the facts.

  27. Are you kidding me with the "government made a good investment" bullshit? Citibank committed outlandish crimes earning individuals who ran it many billions. The company, not the individuals, paid a $285 million slap on the wrist pocket change fine and are still in business with nothing changed, with help from the government (which is we the people) with the result of a few greedy people profiting immensely from too big to fail while everybody else just had to suck it up and suffer. As far as i know the auto and steel industries didn't commit crimes to bankrupt themselves. There is a huge difference. Stick to the facts. http://www.propublica.org/article/did-citi-get-a-sweet-deal-banks-says-sec-settlement-on-one-cdo-clears-it-on

  28. But I'm not defending vandalism of the Blue Bikes. Hate the sponsor, not the bikes.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I don't see how a few squirts of whatever could destroy a Citibike. These things were built to last. As fart as the rest of your statement...there's plenty of opportunity for things to get worse, once again. Then what?

  30. I propose a new name for CitiBikes: StickyBikes. Stick your butt onto one of our pre-coated seats and keep your eyes glued to the road as you adhere to all local traffic laws, you won't be able to peel yourself away from our shiny new StickyBikes. StickyBikes, we're stuck on you!

  32. Hahaha, all you goody two-shoes, cop, lovers have a sense of humor for once. "that is so messed up, dont they know thats against the law!" Boo fuckin hoo fuck citibike, the law, and your stupid glue covered butt.

  33. considering the profits citibank makes
the use of bikes should not cost riders anything and they ought to be logo free...
