Renovations start at future home of Mee Noodle Shop on First Avenue



As you may know, Mee Noodle Shop is returning to the East Village after a seven-year absence ... just a few storefronts away from its former home on First Avenue at East 13th Street.

Anyway, EVG regular dwg notes that renovations have finally started on the space, previously occupied until March by Birdbath Neighborhood Green Bakery.

In June, Mee's Joyce Chi told The Villager that the restaurant will be reopening in about five months. So if you want to do the math...

    Great news! Mee Noodles has great cold sesame noodles, brocolli or anything with garlic sauce, lo mein, freshly made dumplings, and the lunch special is a really good deal. Their midtown location used to be the best, but the one on 31st and 2nd ave has gotten better, especially since Sam's Noodles on 3rd Ave closed down a few years back. Sam's was the best, always busy, but then something happened and it was replaced by that awful, awful chain of saloons called Tonic, with it's garish black and red facade that must have cut property values on the block in half. Can't wait for the new Mees to open, way too many Chinese restaurants have been replaced by bars, Sushi, Vietnamese and Thai joints, welcome back Mee!

    Is this in any way connected to the Mee Noodle Shop on 53rd & 9th? Cause that place is amazing - I don't get around to going there nearly often enough.

    This will be another place whose bicyclists are buzzing the wrong way and on sidewalks on E-bikes terrorizing innocent pedestrians. You selfish needs for takeout is endangering innocent people.

    I pick up my own food. Of course, I use my bike to get there, and take the shortest path as fast as I can when I'm hungry!
