  2. Remember to call 311 to place your complaints! Lower east side blocked SantaCon... Hopefully we can next year too!

  3. When are they going to BK?
I have to go out at SOME point.

  4. At The 13th Step right now and there are close to 100 Santas taking Selfie, smoking, and chanting to get in. Two police vans and a dozen cops are keeping order, so far. Even thought it's not on the official list the crowds are here in force and go all the way up 2nd avenue getting into any bar that will take them. The official route map and agreement with the city is a joke, and the Lower East Side better get that fence up ASAP before they too are invaded.

Someone just threw a Chistmas ornament at Starbucks but no arrests were made. At least half of the crowd is female, dressed in the sexy Mrs.Santa Tutus they bought ten minutes atonat Ricky's.

Dr. Bop needs to get his old Sanat costume out of mothballs and get down here right now it looks like every single lady between 18-24 is here, and no doubt so are the fake IDs.

The crowd is growing and getting ugly, the SantaConApocalypse is upon us.

  6. it's over.
the bars that serve the under-age college students and tourists are now serving the santas.
students probably make up close to 50% of our "residents".
they are disaffiliated, temporary, mostly mindless party animals.
the local businesses cater to these students rather then to residents.
the police are happy to have them here rather than all over the city.

  8. Out of curiosity I cruised around on bike. The weather has dampened the festivities in a couple of ways. It's cold out there, plus windy with some fairly driving snow that makes it hard to see--definitely not nice to be outdoors right now. 2nd and 9th, and A and 9th corners had some congregations but other than that not too thick a presence. (BTW I saw lots of regular folk and kids out and about doing their thing--much of the EV from what I saw has yet to be taken) Also the cold has caused a lot of conners to forgo the proper santa suit. Many people esp females who made only a small concession to the theme such as red pants, or a santa hat or a green t-shirt(?). Therefore much of the crowd is blending in with the non-participants. To that I say humbug--where is your Santacon spirit? When you take the santasuit out of the equation, what do you have.

Huge NYPD presence outside 13th Step a half hour ago. FDNY too. They were attempting to breakup the crowd. I hesitantly ran some errands and Santacon is worse than last year. These goons couldn't care less about the police presence.

  10. CBS was filming out there at the same time. Now that Santacon has officially become an issue for the city you can bet your ass it's days are numbered. The beans have been tipped.

  11. Double Wide aka Double Douche on East 12th Street is serving the Santas. It is so disheartening to see local bars catering to this crowd and many of them aren't moving on because of the crappy weather.

  12. A 10.30 AM FB post from my friend’s son who is 28 and lives in Peter Cooper Village (just north of Stuy Town): “Two apartments on my floor are pre-gaming for Santa Con and I want to punch things.”

  14. Reporting live from SatanCon Central in the East Village, this Is Giovanni with and EV Grieve special report : Right now we are on 5th St and 2nd Avenue at Mary Ann's Mexican (which seems to be in the process of changing its name to Dalias, whatever) and SatanCon shows no sign of letting up in spite of the low temperatures and heavy snowfall. The line at Cooper Craft Beer is growing to around 30 snow covered Santas, and every bar in the area is full as increasingly drunk Santas continue to pour in. Apparently they are intent on drinking every last drop of alcohol left in Manhattan even if/especially if it kills them. Bare Burger and Moonstruck just across the street are also full of Santas trying to keep their stomachs full, a couple of Santas are making out near the smoke shop, and someone in the most garish pink outfit and wig just passed by who probably dresses that way every day and no one even noticed. So far no major incidents or fistfights over taxis have been seen, but local residents are advised to watch out for that pink-colored snow later on, as it's probably not safe for children or adults to eat. Reporting from the East Village, and only slightly inebriated, this is Giovanni, for EV Grieve News

  15. We're flooded here in the LES so LES Dwellers can suck it.

I'm on Allen between Stanton and Rivington and it's been Santacon-filled since 11:04AM!

  16. the argument that last year there were no 311 complaints is bullshit. There is no "press 1 to complain about drunk Santas" so what exactly would they be counting? They would come in as regular noise complaints and not be tracked separately. I would bet nobody bothered to look at the spike of 311 and 911 calls last year, or if they did, they aren't mentioning it. That database needs to be made publicly available.

  17. Nobody bothers calling 311, because it takes 45 minutes to get in touch with a human.

  18. To hell with calling 311, let's call Susan Stetzer!

  19. What the fuck is wrong with some of you people? It's a bunch of kids looking for a way to belong...so what. They'll be gone come nightfall. I'd slit my throat before I'd ever put on one of those costumes...but the outrage displayed by some of you supposedly progressive people is nothing short of astounding. Is that how you validate your 'hipness'? It's a bunch of young kids, for crying out loud... And yes, I live a very few doors west of Cooper Craft Ale. I was an asshole too, many moons ago.( there might be some detractors who'd claim that I'm still fitting the bill) Not that I would have ever dressed up like a bunch of Santas or reindeers...at that time we preferred to have individual attire. But so what, times change.. When we wake up Monday morning it'll be all a distant memory.
As always, just my two cents.

  20. Uncle Waltie,
Unfortunately, they will not be gone in a day... 13th step will remain in all it's douchey glory...
The spirit of SantaCon will live on!

  21. To 10:59 AM:
13th Step serves a purpose. It's like a big public toilet. Keeps the a**holes out of the places I like to patronize. I'm sure people living near that place would understandably disagree with me.
