A longtime EVG reader writes in...
"Do you know any person or place that would still be interested in records? We're moving and the records can't come with us, and we have decades of stuff ... there's little if any monetary value to some of the records, but someone somewhere may want them."
The reader figures there are at least 500 LPs (pictured above), probably "mostly 1960s & some '70s and some guitar stuff." There are also some 78s.
So… Any record stores around here still buying some vinyl?
Separately, perhaps you are interested in a few of them? The reader is happy to just give them to a good home. Here's the reader's email if you'd like to know more about the records.

We often get reader queries ... asking for help with, say, donating clothes or books ... or finding an East Village-based caterer... If you have a question for the masses, then try the EV Grieve email...

ReplyDeleteLast time I was in Housing Works bookstore on Crosby they still had a vinyl records section, and they list LPs among the donations they accept: http://www.housingworks.org/donate/drop-off-donations/
ReplyDeleteI volunteered at Housing Works for three year and they will take your records but it's really of little to no value for them and it's a storage nightmare for them because it takes so long for records to sell.
ReplyDeleteKim's buys vinyl, as well as both Academy's and Other Music, and Mercer Street Books. Some smelly vinyl guy is peeing himself (and its always a guy) right now wanting to look in those stacks..
ReplyDeleteThe radio station WFMU will take old records for donation. They are non profit and have an amazing record fair. http://www.wfmu.org/Help/donate.html

Who the heck wouldn't want good vinyl? I thought it was a telling sign where a vendor at the Mary Help of Christians flea market sold used CD's for $1 and used vinyl for $3.
ReplyDeleteMy boyfriend recently sold all his records at a shop on 6th Street between 1st and A. He doesn't remember the name of the shop though. He got way more than he expected to!
