Exclusive 2nd look inside the all-new USPS retail outlet on East 14th Street

The mostly eagerly anticipated USPS retail outlet opening ever The new USPS retail outlet opens tomorrow at 333 E. 14th St. at the former Duane Reade (and Gristedes) location. We don't know exactly what services will be offered here, aside from self-service stamp sales and P.O. boxes. (We'd have better luck getting info from the Kremlin.)

This location will serve, in part, as a replacement to the now-closed Peter Stuyvesant Post Office branch at 432 E. 14th St.

Anyway! Walked by the place this morning… The iconic Duane Reade has-moved-around-the-corner sign is still up. But workers removed the paper that covered the windows…

.. and here is a shot from last night via EVG regular Pinch, who first alerted us to the photo opp…

Guess we'll find out tomorrow what other services the retail outlet will offer… such as large package pickup.

  1. What do you have against the Kremlin?

  2. Perhaps it's just the angles, but I don't see a single service window for live interaction; is everything going to be taken care of by machines?

  3. Good question, Gojira…the area to the left of the self-service machines is reserved for the PO Boxes… maybe there is a window around the corner in that top photo…

  4. Who wants to bet that the dropbox for packages that accompanies the self-service machine is closed and locked more often then it's open?

  5. The old Post Office was 34,000 sq ft, this new one is 5,000 sq ft, this looks like a self-service station, no way there's much customer service at all much less any package service. Do they really expect people to hike uptown for packages?

  6. I know of a few countries in Europe where all packages are delivered to private businesses.
These places sell magazine, lottery tickets similar to what we have already in New York. You can also ship from these places although I can't image what are usually small storefronts handling the full quantity of the former Sty post office. The benefit of the European model is, friendly service, decentralized locations and you get contacted directly by phone or email rather than that little pink slip which gets lost half of the time before you ever see it.

  7. This looks almost exactly like the West West Village station over on Hudson street. Don't know if it will be
entirely automated, or whether there will be window service, though.

Move along, kiddies; nothing to see here.

  8. The space is small, but there better be large package pick up here...
