Exclusive 3rd look at the all-new USPS retail outlet

Which opens today! But it wasn't open on our way to Day Job! Boo!

But! Workers took down the rest of the paper that was covering the doors... and we could see more of the interior... and it looks like there are service windows!

Right back here or there ... we saw at least three arrows service windows...

Please let us know if you go by today... Give us a report! on this most eagerly anticipated USPS retail outlet opening ever. (And how much longer will the Duane Reade sign remain up? That will be good for at least 10 more EVG posts!)

Is that really enough space for the long lines and violent fights?

  2. Now it looks like my dentist's office, which is fitting since I equally dread visiting either one.

  3. Staff will have to be nicer if they're not behind bulletproof glass

  4. The unfortunate thing is, if there are three service windows, it means a maximum of one will be open at any given time.

The saddest thing is that they're replacing a post office the size of the Peter Stuyvesant station with one the size of the Tompkins Square station. This will not end well.

  5. I have no doubt those arrows would be more friendly and accommodating than the staff will be...

  7. I hate to say two words in favor of any 7-11 in this East Village of ours, but I'm going to bite the bullet and say it: Amazon allows free pickup from the 7-11 on 3rd ave -- and it's open 24 hours.

No more waiting until Saturday morning and then standing in line with the little pink slip for an hour while the guy goes a leisurely hunt rummaging around the messy stacks for everyone's packages.

Sic transit gloria mundi, I know.

  8. BREAKING: As of at least 10:52AM the Iconic Duane Reade sign has been removed. Again, to summarize the previously stated: As of at least 10:52AM the Iconic Duane Reade sign has been removed. Please stay tuned as situations such as these are obviously very fluid.

  10. Like book stores and video stores, the day of the post office is coming to an end. Sad in some ways, great in others. Having spent time in the main post office on 8th Ave last year -- 90% is vacant -- I'm ok with not getting worked up over USPS service. Just not worth it. Let it go.

  11. Grieve...this was an undeniable oversight and for this I apologize. Please accept a book of stamps as a gesture of goodwill.

  13. More Breaking Postal News: While the new 14th Street Post Office will indeed sell stamps, due to a severe lack of space you will have to go up to the Post Office on 54th St. in order to get the glue that goes on the back of them.

Thanks! I took my time on this one... 5 minutes instead of the usual 90 seconds!

I just bought some street glue from this dude outside O'Hanlon's. Already a bit of a stamp glue turf battle shaping up.
