Miss Lily's 7A Cafe is open

Although tomorrow night is the official opening for Miss Lily's 7A Cafe on Avenue A and East Seventh Street… several EVG readers have noted that the restaurant is (softly?) open tonight for business… EVG reader Darbi Worley notes that the hostesses are inviting passersby in for dinner or drinks…

If you go, then please let us know how it was/is …

Updated 4:09 p.m.

Here is the menu via Eater... who has a preview of the interior here.

Lily 7a Menu

Miss Lily's opens tonight at 6.

  1. Food and service were both solid. Menu is basically the same as its westside counterpart. A welcome addition to the EV as there aren't too many Jamaican spots around here (that I know of, at least).

Aaand now here come all the complaints about it being corporate/not run by locals.

  4. If you want Jamaican food, go to Brooklyn or Harlem for chrissakes.

  6. Food and service were both solid. That's how they reel you in and usually start. And once the stellar Yelp reviews come in, they drop the façade of being solid and start being real, which they won't care since they'll be catering to the transients, esp. moneyed transients who'll only try it out now and maybe, just maybe, come back 6 months to a year from now. It has the Times Square business model; we don't care if you're dissatisfied, there'll always be a sucker tourist.

  7. resident of 7th btw A and B here and longtime 7A patron. we went last night and had a great time. the staff is crazy conversational and friendly, and i loved our interactions. sure, i could be cynical and think it won't last, but as of last night, i'll have to say that i left happy. to my recollection, the price points were no different than dinner at 7A (my fish was the same price as what the salmon was at the former establishment), and they gave all the tables 20% off last night (not sure how long that is lasting).

  8. The facade is dope, that looks like a true East Village establishment, looks like it's been there for many years. I hope they'll do the hood right - I think they know it was replacing something special, and I think they'll find a nice in between.

  9. They are suppoed to do Melvin's Juice Box, right?
I hope so because it offers great juices, soups, roti, veggie patties$4 at a reasonable price. A great healthy option for everyday affordable meals for East Village locals. The cafe juice bar at other location offers delivery and closes at 10. Hope they do the same here. The restaurant is good but for people who buy dinner everyday this will be good.

  14. They did apply for a license for a sidewalk cafe.

Did a post about it on March 6.

Not sure when the sidewalk seating debuts...

  15. My only issue is the $1 cheese removal charge on the cheeseburger. Don't think I've ever seen that before.

  16. $1 cheese removal? Are they freakin' kidding me? What jerks.

  18. Used to live down the block from the Houston location, now I'm down the block from this one. Always loved the food, the beautiful servers, and Melvin's juice. I truly encourage even the naysayers to at least give it a try.

  19. UMMM went on sunday night at 6 with 2 kids for a nice family dinner. Yes the waitstaff is cute, they are simply distracted by how cute each other is it seems since they totally forgot to put our order in. After asking 6 different staff members to check on it, we finally were told to wait a second that they would re-enter it. We got up and left. We had a beer, that I swear smelled and tasted like it was infused with weed , a very very very small watermelon juice and some cod fritters which were fine. But really how can one go wrong when you deep fry something. I am happy to see Miss Lilys expand, but I seriously think that they need to explain to their waitstaff that their purpose is to actually take orders and not just entertain the customers with their shimmy shimmies.

  20. Can I just say something here? Waitstaff is not a word. Regardless of gender, they are waiters. One who waits, on tables. Thank you.

  21. Tried this a week ago. I ordered a beer. Our food came. 20 more minutes. Waitress hanging out (I think the one on the right). Finally she came over and said they were out of that beer. I ordered a different one. 20 more minutes. Waitress hanging out. We finished our food. She came over. They were out of the second one too. Asked me (with a snotty lift to her nostril) if I still wanted one. Nope. And I don't plan to ever come back. (My friend said her cocktail, which they *did* bring, tasted like milk of magnesia.)
