Reader report: Avoid couple with stroller asking for milk money for the baby

An EVG reader shared the following with us from yesterday …

I've been approached by this young African-American couple several times in the past year. They are pushing a stroller with a one-to-two-year-old child. They always look sullen and ask for "money for milk for the baby." I always reply "Sorry." Today, when I politely declined, the woman came after me, followed me into a store on 2nd Ave & 4th St. threatening that she would "...knock my fucking head off the next time she sees me." They are usually walking up 2nd Avenue. The police were called. I don't know if the police were able to catch up with them.

This on the heels of the return of the "my kids are in the car and I'm out of gas" scam guy.

  1. This is not a problem if you always observe the first rule of NYC: Keep Moving.

  2. Watch what you say. Anthony from Opie and Anthony was just punched in the face in a similar situation, was not too happy about it and tweeted to that effect, and got fired for venting about the incident. So bite your tongue!

  3. I had the same experience with this couple a few months ago. The woman went off on me when I said
'Sorry' . She yelled at me all the way down the block. I wasn't sure if there even was a baby in the stroller.

  4. Hey 341 pm

The radio DJ was fired for disgusting racist comments not "venting" as you innocuously put it

  5. I had the same experience with this couple too. It started at the closed Boukies at 2nd st and 2nd ave. They followed me all the way up to 4th St. The guy was yelling the whole way calling me a "fucking faggot". All because of my polite "Sorry - I don't have any change" response. I could not help but laugh thinking that they seem to be doing this panhandling thing all wrong. And to call me a "faggot" - I want to ask him how he knew! Was he blowing me last night without my knowledge? LOL!

  6. anon at 3:13- sadly this is the typical racism and homophobia that is never reported on or talked about because the liberal nyc media doenst like it. This happens a lot in nyc- and sadly sometimes it escalates into a mugging or a beating- but these incidents happen daily- just a reminder that this is still nyc and not the bland suburbia some say it is- I wonder if this behavior will get worse now that deblasio is the mayor and its open season on the nypd- and no they wont classify these incidents or the muggings as hate crimes because it wasn't commited by a white person

  7. 5:07 it is you that is the racist! Why don't you post with your real name, so you can be fired from your job, for expressing your honest opinion!
    Get used to it.

  9. In May, these two left me seriously rattled after approaching me on Avenue A near Westville. When I said I didn't have any cash on me, they called me a "lying ass bitch," and said that they bet that I would have given money if their baby was white.

  10. Was this article linked on a Stormfront forum? Or just the New York Post?

  11. I encountered this lovely couple a few months ago on Ave B and 6th St. I said I didn't have cash but could get milk right there at Sunny & Annie's. That launched them both into a tirade of obscenities, which they kept up for an entire block.

  12. If there is a child involved, it should be immediately taken from them.

  13. why bring up storm front or the NY post? Why would you being that up ? I guess I can't be surprised because if you mention these types of incidents you are racist and the bad guy- well when panhandlers follow you screaming and threatening you and its brought up on a neighborhood blog its not racist to acknowledge reality - these folks are the angry homophobic racists and yes nygrump I'm pretty sure they have a kid - should I pretend.they don't follow people and call them faggots and threaten them? This is ridiculous and the NYC media including the post ignores these stories and unless you get assaulted.the nypd is useless-

  14. Call the police and report the two for aggressive panhandling. Easy enough.

Geez, why are people usually so docile?

All these comments from people who did nothing about the hostile couple (who had a kid with them no less!) make me sad for this community. Is it a case of 'Not my problem'? Well, clearly these people are yours and your neighbors' problem so step up and report their asses!

  15. I've commented here and I did report it but I don't think the nypd will do anything unless they see these folks.in action or there is an assault maybe getting the word out keeps people safe

  16. I'm so glad I found this original post and the follow-ups --- I just got in after being shrieked & cursed at by this woman for half a long block between 5th & 6th Avenues. Saw a young couple with a nice stroller and smiles, thought they seemed lovely. Just as I was passing, she said softly, "Excuse me..." and I thought she was about to ask for directions. Still can't believe what she called me, the guy seemed embarrassed. His backpack was nicer than mine. Thinking about it, wouldn't a baby have started crying? - she was incredibly loud & angry.
