ReplyDeleteI'm sure everyone here was so wonderful and polite when they were 18- rules of conduct? speak softly? are you kidding me? blue glass you really need to get a grip- that is totally ridiculous- maybe integrating them more and being less dismissive might be helpful- how about invites to help with community gardens or helping tutor local schoolkids? but that would be positive and productive- can't have that now can we? perhaps the mayor should make these homeless shelters instead of dorms- would you like that instead?

“when they were 18- rules of conduct?" That not the problem. As illustrated by the New York magazine article, “The School That Ate New York”, NYU is basically making the EV, the LES, Stuy Town and Peter Cooper a one company town. And that company is NYU. And that is not a good thing.

Maybe seeing these kids makes you realize your only accomplishment in life was scoring a crappy rent.stabilized apt. They don't bother me. At night I go out and enjoy the city. Yes I put windows in my apt that keep the noise out. You should stop projecting your anger and bitterness about.your problems on the young and the.successful. I didn't realize this was a quiet old age city now. Sorry.you can't afford to move to Florida. I'm going to go out and have a good.time. Sorry if anyone who actually has a life keeps you awake. ReplyDeleteTo those who say "get a life" etc, etc.. the East Village used to be pin-drop quiet at night, even with/in it's former "gritty" reputation/glory. It has nothing to do with "old people" or being jealous about some young person's success. Those type of "deal with it" comments are indicative of who lives there now. Ugh, another school year starting. The EV is bad enough already without adding hundreds more students.
ReplyDeleteas someone that lives a few apartments down from this dorm, the first weekend of school is the noisiest and usually disturbs my sleep with whatever chanting and music they do for orientation. but the NYU kids are far less obnoxious or dangerous than the lowlifes that walk down the block to get to webster hall.
ReplyDeleteTrue but NYC has added over 1 million residents since those days. Tourism has doubled from 27 million to 54 million. Successful cities are crowded and busy. Buffalo is pin drop quiet at night. So are lots of other places. I remember it quiet. I also remeber the central park jogger and the TSP homeless campground and the.kid who got killed on the train going to the US.Open. Lets bring all that back. You can have your mostly quiet nights. Quiet except for the screams of someone being stabbed/raped.etc. Ah the good old days.
ReplyDeleteAnon 9:50: people are still being stabbed and raped in the EV, and quite often recently, it seems. I don't think bringing in NYU et al means better living conditions. All else (stabbing & raping) being equal, I prefer the neighborhood without these kids - aka quiet nights without woooooo parties on the rooftop next to me.
ReplyDeleteHave fun paying off those student loans and living in your parents basement until you're 60. Better study real hard as there's a million of you kids all competing for the same six jobs. No pressure.
ReplyDeleteMost of the biggest douchebags entertaining themselves in the EV DON'T go to NYU. While I think that NYU (and Cooper Union) as institutions have been very bad neighbors, I don't blame their students.

Anon 7:19 I do not desire to be kept awake at 3 in the morning knowing I have to work next day to pay my rent stabilized not rent control rent to keep a roof over my head. Are they young yes successful to be determined forking over Daddy's credit card is not a measurement of success.
ReplyDeleteGreedy colleges are to blame. They have no place left to put these kids so the treat the East Village, West Village, and LES as an extension of their campus. There are just too many college kids in the neighborhood.

You know how you can tell a narcissist? Just asked them. And he just answered it. "they don't see narcissism as a negative quality -- they believe they are superior to other people and are fine with saying that publicly..."Those who think they are already great don't try to improve themselves. And narcissism is bad for society because people who are only thinking of themselves and their own". And he's probably from Florida who now thinks he owns the EV and NYC.
