Local firehouses throughout the city are commemorating Sept. 11, 2001, today. Here was the scene this morning outside Engine Company 5 on East 14th Street near First Avenue.
On 9/11, the Company lost Manny DelValle, a 7-year FDNY veteran who grew up in the Bronx.

Manny was a friend of mine (we played on the same softball team). Manny was a great guy, an amazing story teller, and had such an engaging personality that we all thought he was going to be Mayor someday. A terrible loss.
Thank you Chad.
Please folks, go buy a bunch of flowers and leave them at the firehouse, you have no idea how much the guys appreciate it. I can see my pink roses in that pic, they need company. Lots of company.
