Just looking at the structural repairs underway at 95 Avenue A at East Sixth Street.
Ravi DeRossi told Eater last month that the building housing his bars Cienfuegos, Amor y Amargo and Gin Palace is sinking into the ground.
Gin Palace closed on Nov. 6 and is expected to be out of commission for at least two months. (The other two bars remain open.)
Looks like a pretty serious operation...

The repair costs are estimated at $100,000.

3 bars that started as a cubano shop - do they even bother to sell food anymore - w
This intersection is looking worse by the day, what with the Benny's closing, this Cienfuegos/gin palace eyesore, and the con ed transformer work across avenue A. And the construction project on A between 6th and 7th doesn't help matters. I pray Ravi di Rossi doesn't try to open another bar in the Benny's space, especially if he makes it a windowless blank facade. That's one of the worst things about Cienfuegos (or is it gin Palace, who can tell which is which)--a corner business without windows creates a tremendously cold and inhumane feel. By contrast, it was always comforting to look into the windows of Benny's on my way home and check out the diners inside.
