Sidewalk reopens on 7th Street at 2nd Avenue

Jimmy's No. 43 proprietor Jimmy Carbone let us know that the new sidewalk is now open on the north side of Seventh Street at Second Avenue... this section of sidewalk had been boarded up since the deadly explosion and fire on March 26. (The sidewalk in front of where 119-123 Second Ave. stood remains closed.)

Seventh Street west of Second Avenue reopened to traffic last Friday.

Updated 5:56 p.m.

The sidewalk in front of where 119-123 Second Ave. stood is now open again…

  2. hi, i am not sure where to put this question and have been following grieve and other sources the most. but why are the windows still open on some of the apartments on that most nearby affected building? why haven't they been boarded up? is there still a vacate order? unless residents are purposefully airing out i feel like i've been seeing those windows open since this all started. but the top is boarded up. what about the cats that are still missing and the elements / rain further damaging these apts?

Do you mean the building at 125 2nd Ave?

The Times reported this info about 125 this past Sunday:

Of 26 units, only two were severely damaged. On April 14, tenants in 18 apartments were allowed back into their homes by the city.
