Going mobile on 2nd Avenue

Slum Goddess spotted this double-wide headed down Second Avenue at East Fifth Street last night…

Any ideas of where it's going?

  1. During my time in the EV I have seen double-wides making their way down 2nd Ave a number of times. I'd imagine that 2nd Avenue is part of the approved path for something that size to get from Place A to Place B. Has anyone ever seen one on any other street or avenue, or seen one going through a tunnel or over a bridge? My guess is that the destination is Staten Island: the two bridge that go from SI to NJ look too narrow to be able to accommodate a double-wide, but I'd image the Verrazano could handle it. But how it gets over/under the East River is a mystery to me.

  5. I once saw a whole fleet of these barrel down second ave. My guess is Staten Island as they have trailer parks.

  6. On Wednesday night I saw one heading west on 14th between 1st & 2nd...unless it was the same one and it's in some kind of holding pattern.

  9. For almost a year after Sandy, I would see these travelling down 2nd Avenue every Wednesday night - maybe other nights too, but happened to notice it as a pattern on Wednesdays. My guess was always Staten Island. It has been at least a few months since I last saw one go by (and when they did, there were tons in a row), but I guess they are back up and running!

  12. That's not a double-wide. A double-wide would twice the width. Get it?
