EVG contributor Derek Berg, who took these photos, said that the officers were gentle with the raccoon, which one of them named Rocky. After getting checked out, the officers said that Rocky would be released...

  2. I'm sure it's only a scratch, and Rocky will be better as soon as he is able...

  3. Do you think he trekked all the way from Central or Inwood Park?

  4. More likely he came from the parkland along the East River, or he's a native. I'd love to pick his brain about what it was like back in the day.

  6. he's probably native to the park. studies show that raccoons keep very limited habitats. they don't venture more than one or two blocks in their daily movement.

    cute little critter.

  7. Raccoons are normally mostly nocturnal. Yes, looks young, but, I am always very cautious around a raccoon seen in broad daylight. It might mean it has rabies.

  14. A racoon came into our apartment on East 5th Street through an open window a few weeks ago. We screamed. He/she left.
