EV heave: Regal Cinemas debuting 4DX at Union Square on March 25 with 'Batman V. Superman'

[I love the smell of 4DX in the morning...]

Those reclining seats at Loews Village VII will seem like child's play (not the movie) compared to what the Regal Union Square 14 is unleashing on March 25 for "Batman V. Superman:": 4DX.

Here is an explanation of 4DX via the 4DX website:

Advancing the movie theater experience from watching the movie to almost living it, 4DX is the ultimate in state of the art technology delivering a fully immersive cinematic experience. Inside every dedicated 4DX auditorium, motion chairs and environmental effects such as wind, bubbles, and scent work in perfect synchronicity with the action on screen.

With only the best technologies, 4DX motion chairs are equipped with three base movements of heave (move up and down), roll (move left and right) and pitch (tilt backward and forward) which can create an endless expanse of possible combinations to mimic such actions as flying and driving. The skilled team of 4DX editors, "i-Studio", are experts in maximizing the feeling of immersion within every movie without overstepping comfort bounds.

(And where else will you find something "equipped with three base movements of heave"?)

According to the Los Angeles Times, "since debuting with a 4-D screening of "Avatar" in 2010, there are now more than 23,000 4DX seats operating in 182 theaters in 34 countries." The Union Square theater will be the first with 4DX in NYC.

  6. I might be old fashion but I thought a movie's story was suppose to move us not our seats.

  8. It's like, no, exactly as one of those simulator rides at amusement parks. In which East Village is the new Great Adventure.

This would be perfect for a film like Devil in Miss Jones or Behind the Green Door or Debbie Does Dallas in the old Times Square, -- motion chairs and effects such as wind, bubbles, and scent work in perfect synchronicity with the action on screen... 4DX motion chairs are equipped with three base movements of heave (move up and down), roll (move left and right) and pitch (tilt backward and forward) which can create an endless expanse of possible combinations to mimic such actions as flying and driving.

    And ditto, 9:39 a.m.

  9. Between the AMC and now Regal, the EV is being pinched for higher TKT prices. Movie houses aren't doing as well these days. There are a lot of lousy films coming out of Hollywood these days. So to make money theater chains are putting lipstick on the pig so to speak and doing something to the seats as an excuse to jack-up the tkt. prices for the same lousy films. Where do you go to see a film in a regular seat at a reasonable price? Very bad trend.

  10. Ahhh and the "let's make a public place like my living room" ification of America continues e.g. 9:54pm.

    1. I want to watch a movie and that's it.

    2. The only thing I'm eating while watching a movie is a fifty cent bag of Wise popcorn I'm bringing in (I would tip a random concession worker $2 so I'm still paying only $2.50 for my popcorn.)

    3. Fuck 3D as well as 4D.

Oh, hell no! Does everything have to be a "playground" experience? Idiocracy has arrived. Help.

  15. What a surprise -- the whiny babies are whining. I'm going to be there, maybe not opening weekend, since tickets are probably already sold out, but definitely next week.

The rest of you, I hear "Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat" is playing at Film Forum. But that's probably too far for you.

  16. No, but this movie theater will be for babies 'aight, to soothe their infantile needs. And 'Arrival of a Train at La Ciotat' would be a great a feature in this 4DX theater, they don't care what the movie is about, as long as there are bubbles, and the seats move.
