The moment when a dog urinated on Donald Trump's portrait outside Tompkins Square Park

If you were around Seventh Street and Avenue A outside Tompkins Square Park earlier today, then you likely saw the large portraits of presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton.

Yonkers-based artist Jeffrey Reid has shown his work here in the past. (Like here and here.)

Anyway, EVG reader John Iz happened to be here at the moment a dog endorsed the Trump portrait...

  4. Does anyone else think that dog owner is an asshole for letting his dog piss on someone else's property (paintings)?

  5. The dog probably peed on that painting because it had already been used as a dog toilet.

    Yes and no.

Yes, because obviously someone put in time, effort, and money into putting these paintings out there, and one should naturally feel bad about damaging someone's property without express consent (and sometimes even with express consent).

No, because... well, frankly, it's the Donald. Actually, regardless of your political affiliation, whoever put these paintings out there had to know that these paintings would be defaced somehow - either dog piss on Donald, or Bernie stickers on Hillary, or straight up graffiti on both. To expect these paintings to remain pristine in an outdoor, public environment, without round-the-clock supervision, is illogical.

That dog is visibly attached to a leash meaning the owner was not paying attention (playing with iPhone) or thinks his or her dog has the "right" to piss anywhere it pleases. Just because something is left in public it does not mean it should be destroyed purposely. I've seen people moving on my block and a dog owner let their dog piss on their stuff.

  9. John Iz, who took the photo, told me this:

Some people seemed to suggest that the dog's owner was intentionally allowing it to urinate on the painting. For the record, I did not perceive it that way. The dog was on a leash, but the owner was clearly distracted, staring at his smartphone. After a few seconds, he realized what was happening and yanked the dog away and left the area. Although I can't be certain, it did not seem intentional -- at least not for the owner!

  10. "Although I can't be certain, it did not seem intentional -- at least not for the owner" If you are staring at your phone and your kid runs into the street that makes you a bad parent. Dogs are piss machines, take your eye off them for a second and they will find something to mark, guilty as I stated above,
