J-Mar Special Touch barber shop opened at 343 E. Sixth St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue in early April.

There was a price cut within a few weeks of opening...

...and by Saturday, workers had cleared out the space... bringing an end to J-Mar Special Touch's two-plus-month run...

Until last fall, the space housed a rental shop that specialized in Bollywood cinema.

  1. Yikes. : / ... Hopefully they got out with a good guy lease clause, and aren't getting financially waterboarded or anything.

  2. So sorry to see this, it is really hard to get a new business off the ground in less inflated times, today it might be impossible.

  4. So men don't get their hair cut anymore?

    Idea for an enterprising barber:

A barber's chair in a bar - call yourself "(Your Name) The Bar-ber".

Why not? A guy grabs a beer or two and thinks "I need a haircut" - there you go.

The bar-ber puts a haircutting cloak on you so no hair falls to the floor LOL.

Here's one for only $4.98 total including shipping:

  5. There are a lot of Barber Shops in this nabe... one up the block on 6th by Bowery [where I go to] one on 5th closer to A, [not]Royal on St Marks and of course the BorgCube of barber shops: Astor Place Hair...
When I was young and poor, it was the barber shop school on 9th and 3rd which was huge until rental prices skyrocketed and it became smaller and smaller, moved around the corner to 10th and then closed

  6. They didn't have a liquor license, that's why they're closing.
