Some love for the former Yaffa Cafe mural space

NYC street artist Hektad is creating one of his heart murals outside 97 St. Mark's Place between Avenue A and First Avenue...

The wall space was home to the Yaffa Cafe mural for nearly 23 years. A worker painted over that back in May. The cafe closed for good after 31 years in September 2014.

A new restaurant, Taberna 97, will be opening here soon.

    It's very pretty. So for all those complaining about the people complaining about Shepard Fairey, please note that we like "inoffensive" art ... maybe we just roll our eyes at things that are try-hard

    My opinion has change recently in regards to what is considered "street art" in the EV these days. As with just about everything else here this more tourists friendly, certain not to offend or invoke a deep thought artwork is getting tiresome. I was once cynical to comments that called this part of the larger gentrification plan by developers and in part the city but now it appears to be the case. Please stop with the Hallmark card illustrations.

    be grateful it's 6th grade girl art, if it were 6th grade boy art we'd be looking at crudely drawn robot-monsters and penises

    I like this mural very much. I miss the former one for Yaffa Cafe too.
