Wow, a rally against hate. If the Democratic Party didn't run such an inept campaign, we wouldn't be at this point. If they didn't turn into Republicans by getting into bed with big business, we wouldn't be in this mess. If they didn't forget the middle class blue collar workers we would be- well, you know where. And look who's there at the rally Ms. Mendez who betrayed her community by selling us out at Astor Plaza. All politics are local, Rosie. Take care of your own backyard. Rally against the mess at Astor not the mess at the airports!
ReplyDeleteAstor Plaza? There were community residents involved in the planning of Astor Plaza. There was an entire task force created for Astor Plaza. Rosie has been in office for 11 years and is a great champion for services in district 2.
Delete@cmarrtyy I think you need to reset your moral barometer if you equate ugly Astor Plaza with shutting the door to refugees from countries our own government has helped destabilize.

There is nothing wrong with my moral compass. But there is something wrong with yours if you think immigrants are worth the outrage. On a scale of 1 to 10 it's at the bottom of my outrage meter. We live in a country where our voting rights are under threat. Medicare/Medicaid are being allowed to die. And social security will be privatized. No, I damn well know where the outrage belongs.

EVERY american is descended from immigrants unless they are american indians.

Does anyone truly believe that if someone hates you, or someone you know or love, that your marching in the streets yelling demeaning names and holding signs with epitaphs whose only purpose is to inflame your enemies will be a productive use of your time and effort? Only an insane person does the same thing over and over and expects a different outcome. If you want to end hate, go do something nice for someone who you think hates you. Go extend a helping hand to someone who is in need. Help raise them up and show them what is good, not scream at them and tell them what is wrong with them. There are many old sayings that are full of wisdom and one of them is that you catch more flies with honey. So stop flinging your feces around like primates in the wild. Eventually you have to walk through all of that and you know what? you just end up smelling bad.

ReplyDeleteRosie Mendez has betrayed us on every point. This shifts the emphasis on a national issue while she has ignored local issues. It's taken her practically her whole term to stand with residents on landlord harassment. We need to preserve affordable housing in the neighborhood not look away at HDFC co-op shareholders who have used flip tax money and and cash transactions towards upscaling the buildings, raising co-op sale prices to practically market rate, and changing the demographic, all so they will be able to sell their units on the open market. All of this which is being subsidized with my tax paying dollars for affordable housing. It's greed.

The flip tax was put in place as a deterrent so that people wouldn't use their co-op purchase as an investment. But people have figured out a way to do just that, by purchasing units with their parents money, staying for a couple of years, then selling the unit at a tidy profit even after paying the flip tax.
ReplyDeleteThe shareholders have allowed this to happen with all cash transactions, gifting and generous subletting policies. What that does is upscale the buildings in terms of better amenities, and raises the value of the apartments. These units are supposed to be an affordable home ownership opportunity for working people, and they have figured out a way to abuse the system. There are approximately 100 buildings in the East Village mostly in 10009.
This BULLSHIT demo in a contained area where folks can be controlled is political opportunism at its best.
