Early last September, I noted that an outpost of Paris Baguette was opening in the shoppes of Stuy Town on First Avenue near 16th Street.
And that was likely the last time I walked by this strip of shoppes. Which is why I had no idea that this Paris Baguette had opened earlier in the fall.
As noted, the quickly expanding South Korea-based company has more than 3,000 corporate and franchised stores across multiple countries in Asia as well as in Europe. There are a handful of locations currently in Manhattan.
Anyway, I happened to walk by the other day ... and so I went inside. I recalled DrGecko's comment about the food items:
Oh, god, I love their place on 32nd St. If I'm feeling down, just a quick look at their bizarre stuff always cheers me up.
I haven't seen the doughnut stuffed with potato salad recently, but their skewered hotdog-in-a-roll or their sweet-potato sponge cake will surely brighten up the neighborhood.
P.S. I don't necessarily recommend actually eating any of these things.

Anyway, the place looked to be doing pretty good business. There was a short line at the counter and I didn't feel like waiting for

ReplyDeleteDo they actually have baguettes? I'm still looking for a decent bakery that bakes on premises besides bagel joints. The only one I know of is Parisi on Elizabeth Street.

Not Korean-American. This is a chain based in Seoul, so genuine Korean. That's why it's called "Paris Baguette."
ReplyDeleteOf course they have baguettes, just as much as they have other Parisian items. Well, at least, they have bread shaped like rather shrunken baguettes. I have no idea what they taste like, and I'm not inclined to find out. They place has other charms.
Egg salad and bacon roll? I'd actually buy if it doesn't have mayonnaise, a food that I hold great disdain for.
ReplyDeleteOh, they do use a lot of mayonnaise, the kind that comes in a squeeze bottle. I'm not sure it's a "food," though. It's more of a decoration. The Japanese put it on pizza, for example (but, then, they think that Western food is weird.)
ReplyDeleteThere is one on 7th avenue near 40th street. I have eaten there a hand full of times with my husband on the way to see a show in the theater district. It's about on par with Pret a Manger. Overall not a bad place to grab something quick.

ReplyDeleteI've been to this one plenty of times. I usually come in the afternoon to grab a sandwich or a pastry (their fruit tarts are really good), however I stumbled across one morning to find exactly this bacon egg roll. They only offer it in the mornings and given the options of donuts right next door or the usual bagel and cream cheese I decided to try it. It is actually quite good. A quick and easy one handed breakfast on the go.
