It's time to sign up for your local WINTER CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). Mountain View Farm supplies farm fresh food to the 14th Street Y CSA. Six Bi-weekly distributions beginning in November — you will pick up a massive box of fresh vegetables at the 14th Street Y, 344 E. 14th St. between First Avenue and Second Avenue.
This makes it easy to enjoy fresh organic produce all through the winter months.
Each distribution will consist of 25-30 pounds of produce. Vegetables you will see in your share will be: Carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, winter squash, cabbage, purple top and hakurei turnips, black, daikon and watermelon radishes, kale, onions, celeric, leeks, bok choy potatoes, garlic and much more
Feel free to email alice14ycsa@aol.com if you have questions or would like to sign up.
Two questions: What is the cost, and is a half-share available?
ReplyDeleteI've been burned by these CSAs—if "burned" is the right word for having more vegetables than you can eat in a week—because I currently live alone, and even when I had a roommate the only vegetables he ever ate were in his frozen microwaved dinners.
Google came up with this, looks like half shares are available, or were in 2015 at least

Scuba Diva,
ReplyDeleteYou can email Alice at the Y with those questions. I linked to her email in the post.
I did this CSA in 2015-2016 and it was fantastic. I did a half share--Alice found me someone to split with--and it was still a lot bounty wise, but manageable. IIRC it priced to about $2/lb for everything.
ReplyDeleteI think the winter one might be half share only (i.e. every other week). In summer you have both options.
