Fish ahoy! The Chippery debuts on 1st Avenue

The Chippery, which specializes in fish and chips, debuted over the weekend at 85 First Ave. between Fifth Street and Sixth Street.

As noted back in January, this is the first Manhattan outpost for the New Jersey-based chainlet, which currently has four locations in the Garden State.

The quick-serve establishment offers a variety of fried seafood platters and sandwiches. You can find their menu here.

Last evening Goggla tried the house speciality (fish and chips!) and a side of jalapeƱo poppers ... and gave both dishes high marks...

Thanks to everyone who pointed out the opening, including Jonathan Michael Fung!

  1. Anyone knows the hours? I tried Google and Yelp, even walked by and the were closed this morning and no hours posted on the door. Would love to give them a try.

What kind of fish do they serve ? Decent cod? Or crappy tilapia?

  3. Menu I saw said cod, clams, shrimp, and some other items. Bigger menu than I expected. Can’t wait to try it.

  4. @Peachy I believe it’s cod, but careful with that question. I was chastised last time for implying other kinds of quality of fish exist and this chain might serve them!

    1. Looks more like tilapia to me as it’s cheaper than cod.

  5. I agree with peachy and gar. I will not knowingly eat tilapia. Fake fish.
