As previously noted, season two will once again do a time warp, and there are scenes set in the 1980s.
As such ... a few props from along Eighth Street between Avenue B and Avenue C courtesy of Stacie Joy...
... and in Tompkins Square Park... where the crew recreated a small segment of Tent City (and not the first production to recreate this time period)...
... and a few more photos via Steven...
"Tompkins Square is everywhere" was carved into the concrete wall of the 9th Precinct holding cell, but that was the old building that was torn down and rebuilt. "Where were you when they came for..." Each garden, each homeless encampment, and each squatter building had its own story, and, it goes without saying, "you had to be there." Rest in peace and struggle, Michael and all the others who fought back.
ReplyDeleteWait...whut?
ReplyDeleteTheir 1st sign says:
Tompkins Square 'EVEYWHERE'
Hope they caught that prior to filming.
Not cool to imply squatters can't spell? :)
It hurts!
DeleteEAT THE RICH became "Can I have another chai super latte, please?"
ReplyDeleteAs someone who knew and loved the tent city activists from the 3rd Street shelter to the park occupation and all through the rebellion I know that they [ most are dead now , many from HIV] would be amazed and proud that their lives made history and have been remembered like this.
ReplyDeleteComment to Felton Davis..While Michael Schenker was a big part of the squatter movement he was not Tent City. Very few of them were white people and they were responsible for starting and continuing the camp. Ronald Casanova, Keith Thompson , Chris and Barbara Henry, Terry Taylor , Artie and others are who should be named here.
ReplyDeleteHow much "trouble" would it have been to reach out to get those who were there and fought the fight to provide ACCURACY?
ReplyDeleteIn typical hollywood fashion, they don't give a fuck, even to the point of using mis-spelled signs.....
To be accurate they should spread some hypodermic needles on the ground and have actors squatting to relieve themselves. I've been here 50+ years and tent city was a hellhole.
ReplyDeleteLol at you getting mad at a mispelling on a sign. Give me a break.
