Just one of the many who go blasting by on bikes and in cars all through the night outside our windows. It often sounds like gunfire. Or cannons. As my Grandmother said, "Empty barrels make the most noise."
One of the fears that many lifetime NYC residents have is that Manhattan might turn into a sleepy suburb whatever that means. The pandemic has proven otherwise despite the ongoing narrative that the city isn't coming back.

I'm a lifetime New York resident, and I've NEVER, EVER heard *anyone* express "fear" that Manhattan would turn into a sleepy suburb. Where are you getting that idea from????
But that photo shows why pedestrians are in danger in Manhattan at any/every hour of the night or day.
Based on public behavior I've observed, it seems many people on our streets now are "Southern-stupid" (aka Mitch McConnell-territory dumb) but with an overlay of NYC entitlement. Bad combination, and nothing for anyone to be proud of.
There are people who lament that Manhattan has become a tame, suburban-fied town with its array of big box stores and retail chains. Adding to the fact that NYC isn't edgy or what it used to be...This being very subjective of what is the definition of being edgy or the degree of edginess.

Another example of the growing chaos in this city.

NYC is always chaotic.
