Last few days for the Sullivan St. Bakery pop-up on 9th Street

Sullivan. St. Bakery's time as a pop-up at 437 E. Ninth St. between Avenue A and First Avenue is coming to an end.

Wednesday (Sept. 1) is the last day for the shop's East Village outpost. They are open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for their focaccia, chocolate chip cookies, disco romano, croissants, fruit tarts and a selection of sandwiches.

Sullivan St. Bakery, which first opened in Soho in 1994, arrived here last fall...  reportedly with an "indefinite" lease.

Management here told EVG regulars Vinny & O that they'd like to stay, but they'd want to fix up the space a bit and get a long-term lease. Unfortunately, the landlord is not offering a long-term rent that the bakery can afford.

  1. No! Sullivan Street Bakery has been such a wonderful addition to the neighborhood.
    I make a point of stopping by for a treat, always after shopping at the Greenmarket.
    I hope that Sullivan Street Bakery will find another location in the East Village asap.

  2. We were pretty disappointed at our few visits there. Not enough offerings, indifferent service, and a pizza that doesn't taste like a pizza.

  5. They are going to be sorely missed :( It was simply lovely having good fresh bread close by. They made some really magical stuff there. It is very sad that here we are going into fall, and its still just things closing left and right. When the sun starts setting early the empty store fronts get quite depressing.

  7. It was so nice to have them in the neighborhood for a bit, I grabbed a slice of their focaccia/pizza for lunch pretty often. Their bread was as good as it gets. It'd be great if they managed to find a permanent storefront in the EV

  9. Anon. 1:36 - If you want good fresh bread, there's always C&B Bakery on 7th and C, some of the best bread I have had in America.

  10. Anon 8:59, that’s Roman-style bakery pizza and it tastes just like you’re in Campo de’ Fiori! It’s Rome’s answer to the humble slice and theirs is extremely credible

  11. Hate that they are leaving always loved the patate square slice. We are lucky to have C&b and I'm Fournil they both are great with Fournil an absolutely amazing addition (taking over Moishe's). If you haven't been, their crossants, baguette and beignets are mouth watering.
