Meanwhile on 1st Avenue and 5th Street...

No.

That's the answer to the (rhetorical) question posed in a headline on Saturday: Have we seen the last of the sinkhole on 1st Avenue at 5th Street?

Despite the arrival of a freshly painted crosswalk and bike lanes on Fifth Street at First Avenue, a crew is back on the scene today doing more work at the intersection...

Thanks CHurt for the tip!

  1. I'd like to point out how a lot of large chains like this have modified/changed their branding colors. Even if the colors are not drastically changed, their hue is. Taco Bell did similar color change. I believe this is in preparation of our move into LED lighting. The new color/hue are in conjunction of this change. I realize how unusual this sounds. For an optical reference think Beijing or Hong Kong and note how we are slowing moving into that same lighting and colors. There is more to visible 'light' than we understand.

  2. Meanwhile...
Me thinks that Rite Aid ain't long for this world. Or at least that clear air space above it isn't.

  3. I think that store is now under new ownership. The last couple of times I’ve been in there the staff has been quite helpful. They really seem to care about their customers. I hope they stay around.

  5. I hope those people buying into the new building with north-facing windows aren't thinking they'll have that view or sunshine and light for very long.

  6. Didn't the new building buy the air rights so they could make the whole thing glass? I seem to remember that was part of the deal.

Also, there are suddenly helpful Rite Aid workers because everything you need is now locked behind glass and you need someone to get it for you. You can thank the shoplifters, I guess.

  7. They've been out there with a jackhammer all morning today and yesterday.

Our ears are open sewers for the construction industry to use.

  8. I just walked by and asked the workers what's the deal with the endless digging. I was told they replaced an important gas line and it was a big job. Yesterday, the gas smell was very strong, so I'm glad they're finishing up. He said they'd be going down the whole block to 2nd Ave, but the part at 1st Ave was the most difficult, I guess.
