Now open: USA Super Stores on 3rd Avenue

The USA Super Stores (the store so nice, they named it plural?!) we've been telling you about is now OPEN on the SW corner of Third Avenue and 10th Street.

This location has daily hours of 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. close on Sundays.

The chainlet of discount stores — grab those McKenzie & Lloyds Danish Style Butter Cookie tins while you can! — have been opening in former Duane Reade outposts this past year (like the one on Second Street and Avenue D).

Perhaps this is ushering in a new era of discount businesses ... joining the soon-to-open Lot Stop on First Avenue near 14th Street ... and the Dollar & More on Third Avenue also near 14th ...

  2. I dropped in this a.m. only to "have a look" around & walked out with $40 of things in my backpack. If you've visited the new "every thing" store on Union Square & 4th Ave. (formerly Jam) this store is a near duplicate and very welcome being a mere block from me. Right inside the door are shelves of Goya products, beans and cans, which I ignore as TFG likes them. (Westside Market also stocks ONLY Goya dried beans.) In another aisle I instead found generic lentils for $1.49/lb. & stocked up as well as a 2 lb. bag of regular oatmeal. They had Bumble Bee Chunk lite for $1.29/can (it was on sale 3/$3 @ C-Town last week). There is milk & eggs in the cooler & sodas & juices. The usual shelves of snack foods and cookies are there. Much of the rest is non-edible stuff and has everything you might imagine from clothes to cleaning stuff to party products. I wandered through & bought some "oh, I need that" products (a new window screen & some A-tshirts). Staff was helpful & pleasant. I know it will be a frequent new stop for me as when I need something - they'll probably have it. Welcome to the neighborhood! I'm already dreaming of hitting the Farmers Market at Astor Place, dropping into CVS for my drugs, hitting USA Store for household stuff, crossing the street for Asian foods this summer. And soon Wegman's. I am very sad about Sunrise Market gone though & still mourn Surprise!.

  6. I don't think the goods at the new USA Super Stores on 3rd Avenue will help me get over missing the convenience of KMart, but you never know. Certainly, I cannot wait for Wegmans and keep fantasizing that they'll somehow open earlier than whenever in 2023. Still, at USA Super Stores, I found some nice, comfortable undies at a great price, and I'm going back today for more. For that, at least, they have a new customer.
