Today in urban etiquette notes on 7th Street about dogs shitting in tree planters

An urban etiquette note from Seventh Street. (Thank you, East Village Neighbor, for the photo!

And the message, with an attention-grabbing salutation:
Dear Neighbor Who Let His Dog Shit in Our Tree Planter,

You waited until no one was looking, but we saw you and took a photo — busted! The EV has a website for people who rudely don't clean up after their dogs, congrats! You're on it. Have some courtesy for others.

P.S. Invest in some poop bags.
P.S.
East Village Neighbor asks, Is there actually a dog poop non-picker-upper website in the EV???

  1. Wow! Good on this neighbor for speaking their mind. This makes me happy to have a cat. No poop bags necessary :)

  5. So what’s the website?

  6. Is it human poop or dog poop that is the question

  7. Damn, Joe Biden, everything seems to be your fault :)

  8. That website is probably Instagram.

I love dogs. Some dog people can be really arrogant and obnoxious.

  9. Now let's address the assholes who run their dogs in Sauer Park as if it were their suburban lawn and not a fucking children's playground!

    1. Yes please. A plea to dog owners: a single dog one time in a playground may not be a big deal if there are no kids there, but it always leads to more dogs later. We watch dogs come in and out of the playground all morning and evening. It tears up the turf. Not all of them are trained to not go on the equipment. Noble is right: please don’t turn it into a dog park. There’s one 3 blocks south.

  11. This kind of a public punishment is pretty fascist on its own

  12. I never understood even from a selfish persons standpoint why they wouldn't pick up dog poop. Do they not care if they themselves step in it later? It's so weird.

  13. @ 1/25 2:52 and 9:40 - not every dog can go in a dog park for multiple reasons. If someone is using limited open public space and not bothering anyone, and not in anyones way who doesn't wish to be near their dog, it shouldn't bother you. We want dogs to be healthy and sane by getting energy out.

  14. While I had to agree with this, but sorry 11:38am, if the sign says no dogs allowed and it's a children's playground, your dog doesn't belong there no matter the reason or rationale. Period.

  15. No dogs allowed means just that.

“He’s not bothering anybody”, is never an excuse.

“We” don’t want dogs to be healthy and sane. You do.

It’s your responsibility to take care of that, not the public’s obligation.

  16. @11:38am I'd be curious as to what are the reasons the dog cannot use the dog park that make it okay to use another public space off leash, especially if there are multiple dogs using this playground at once, which happens frequently. And dogs do destruction to the area when left to run around. The turf is slowly being torn up. The dogs dig around in the flower beds. Not that the kids don't also slowly destroy it, but the dogs greatly accelerate this process (and it's a playground for kids, so it's serving it's purpose).

  17. Ditto with Anon 12:36. There is a sign on the fence inches from the park rules. It's completely ignored partly because it undersized, with faint white text on a bland green background. A similar sign was on the gates before the park / playground was renovated a few years ago. Yes, dogs need exercise but that does not justify ignoring park rules because you feel entitled. Those which bought a pandemic dog have the responsibility to figure out where the dog is allowed to run off leash. The only legal option is on private land or an official dog run. The parks department has a police force which will issue you a summons of $140 if they see you in this park with your dog. Several people on the block are photographing and documenting bad dog owners to encourage more oversight from the Park police. We encourage others to do the same and follow the below link to get Sauer Park on their watch list.

  18. I don't bring my children into the dog park, so dog owners shouldn't bring their dogs into the playground.
