Koko Wings has apparently closed on 1st Avenue

Koko Wings looks to be done at 192 First Ave. between 11th Street and 12th Street.

The quick-serve restaurant specializing in Korean fried chicken has been closed in recent weeks. Google lists them as "temporarily closed." No one responded to our requests for comment.

Meanwhile, the retail space is on the rental market via Meridian Capital Group. The asking rent is $13,500.

Perhaps in an early sign of distress this past summer, Koko Wings began advertising a price drop and that tipping was not necessary (photo from July by Steven)...
Koko Wings debuted in December 2019... this was already a wing-friendly corridor along First Avenue with Dan and John's and Atomic Wings... then Buffalo Wild Wings opened early last fall ... plus, there's Wingstop around the corner on 14th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue.

  1. The chicken here was good, but pricey. And there were other options around including the popular Atomic Wings, so I'm not really surprised.

I'm more heartbroken over the loss of Mad For Chicken on 14th Street which was the best fried chicken I've ever had. I don't know hwy more people didn't go there.

    1. Iggys wings are absolutely no where close to Koko or any sort of Asian style wings. Stop.

  4. So the website says they are basically closed for February post-Super Bowl and reopen March 1. Maybe it's not the end? Having the site listed for rent is a terrible sign, though.

They're the best Korean fried chicken around here so I'll be very bummed if they don't reopen.

  5. They had a really good bibimbap with bulgogi beef and I would order that every time I got food there, but then they dropped it and replaced their Korean entrees with that Cajun seafood menu that made no sense, so I just stopped ordering from them. I wonder how many other customers stopped ordering for the same reason?

  7. Boka, St Marks, best close Korean chicken I know of. And, yes, Mad for Chicken was killer. Underappreciated, sadly.

  8. Boka is too heavy. BonChon was my entry point into Korean fried chicken some years ago, but I got used to Koko style. (Never got the chance to try MFC, but it's a moot point now...)

  9. Agree about the bibimbap! I stopped going when they pivoted to Cajun.
