Noted: Please take your rooftop shenanigans elsewhere

Spotted along Ninth Street... per the door note:
Dear Neighbor,

We heard you on our roof last night and watched you crawl back into your window.

Could you please find another roof for your late-night shenanigans?

There have been a lot of breakins so we call the cops when we hear people up there.

Whether or not you're trying to break in and steal my worthless crap, it's scary and super loud when you're up there.

THANKS — Your neighbor

Great stuff - wonder if the idiot who climbs up there can even read

As much as I hate the frattification of the EV, my gut response is that if you can't handle people hanging out on the roof (a tradition that goes back generations of tar beaches), and your immediate instinct is to call the police, you may have pushed things too far the other direction...

This bullshit started early in the evening 7:30 and continued until after midnight with music so loud I could hear it in my ground floor apartment across the street with the tv on.

Roofs were never designed to be party spaces, and some landlords even prohibit tenants from congregating on roofs—or using them as smoking lounges—because of the inherent danger involved.

I disagree somewhat. Part of going on the roof is that it’s “not allowed”and you are supposed to try not to bother your neighbors/get caught

I've read enough news stories about partying people tumbling off roofs to say that if it's not set up as a proper deck with access and railings/safety features, people shouldn't be up there. (Sorry to be a killjoy.)

I support fun on roofs.

Having dealt with way too many ceiling leaks over years from non-residents carousing & galumphing on our roof (unfortunately it is accessible from neighboring buildings), I too will call the cops when I hear people on the roof.
One one occasion I went up to find the galumphing WAS the cops.

I believe it’s trespassing. Happened to me once- guy was right outside my window climbing up. Thought it was burglar. Police arrested him for trespassing. Or took him into precinct at least and told me t would be trespassing

I don’t live in EV anymore but for 27 years was on the top floor and dealt with the shenanigans all the time.

Once someone was doing an aerobics class with three students above my apt and he wasn’t even someone in the building. They were using some existing bar/structure/part of the roof to jump up and down on.

So many stories.

Had sky light, people suddenly looking into my apt etc. I miss the EV I knew then but not the constant rude, selfish people who tjono everyone else just happens to be on their same party/awake/job schedule

Once loud late night music-I go down and ask him to turn it iff. He said “but I just got new speakers “

Another time he was playing loud late /after hours on a Friday night and later complained to me when I banged on the floor for him to keep it down

I said “we aren’t all on the same schedule-I had to get up at 6 tam that next morning for a job/work”

He looked at me incredulously.
