NY Copy Print & Ship Center, a family-owned business at 13 E. Seventh St. near Cooper Square, is winding down after 34 years.
Owner Mousume Sarker told EVG that the shop had originally planned to close last summer but decided to stay open for one more year.
Now, however, the end is in sight ... with a closing set next month.
"The rent is very high for us, and trying to negotiate with the landlord didn't work out," Sarker said.
The business opened in 1992 and has served generations of neighborhood residents needing copies, printing, shipping and other office services.
"Thirty-four years in business — it's a milestone for me," Sarker said.
As part of the closing process, all stationery merchandise is now marked down 50% to 70%.
Current hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

My standard reply post to this type of EV news:
"The Small Business Jobs Survival Act (SBJSA) is a proposed NYC legislative bill designed to protect commercial tenants from steep rent hikes and sudden evictions. It primarily targets "commercial rent control" by mandating the right to a 10-year lease renewal and binding arbitration if the landlord and tenant cannot agree on a new rent.Key Provisions of the SBJSAIf passed into law, the SBJSA would guarantee small business owners the following protections:10-Year Lease: Commercial tenants in good standing would be granted the right to a minimum 10-year lease renewal.Binding Arbitration: If the landlord and tenant cannot agree on fair market rent for the renewal, a neutral arbitrator would set the rate.Equal Negotiating Power: Landlords would be prohibited from passing their property tax increases directly to the tenant, a common practice in many NYC commercial leases.End to Rent Gouging: Landlords would be required to notify tenants 180 days before their lease expires, stating either the renewed rent amount or a valid legal reason for non-renewal."
Another beloved EV shop bites the dust.as greedy landlords decimate our neighborhood. Big Real Estate lobbyists are too powerful to let the SBJSA ever become law.
I've been a long term patron of this business for years. This woman is lovely, professional, and always assisted me with certain projects. Our hood needs places such as this. What a bummer. Wishing the owner the best. Hopefully she can retire and enjoy her life.
Greed is not the primary factor... As property owners our costs goes up as well, taxes as well. It's not necessarily greed but expenses, taxes, costs, all going up... You know they signed a long term lease so basically for many years. So basically costs and expenses and taxes rises but the rent they charged the tenant doesn't... So yes, they unfortunately have to increase rent to keep up with the 2026 costs/taxes etc.
They are the most professional and gracious copy shop in the neighborhood and will be sorely missed. And I disagree with the landlord above who wrote about costs for landlords. Yes even though the leases are long term the rents are now price gouging pure and simple: exorbitant profit margins do indeed equal greed. It is appalling what predatory capitalist rent rates aka greed have done to this neighborhood much less city and country.
The City has done everything for the restaurant sector - the free street sheds during Covid and then continuing street space and relaxed “rules”.
The City keeps helping Amazon and e-commerce with new loading areas, locker pick up etc.
The City keeps helping street vendors.
Yet somehow the City does Zero for local retail and businesses.
Current administration no different despite insisting they care about “the people”
So sad. I loved this place. So many years here.
"predatory capitalist" is usually used by people who are not investors in property, own property or manage property. I do not own anything but I understand a free market system. 34 years was a good run and if the owner can get more for the space they own, that's the way it goes. But let's keep spinning those socialist buzz words.
I miss and love mama bear! This is terrible news she is a staple of our community and we love her very much! We’re so bummed out mama bear XOXO John and Debie
This isn’t why rents are going up as dramatically as they are, simply because the rate of the rent increases far exceeds that of taxes and other costs.
The so-called “free market” as set up benefits some far more than others—powerful businesses in NY get enormous public subsidies, tax breaks etc. Its not an even playing field, and small businesses take a major hit.
Except I believe commercial leasees cover their portion of those costs on top of their rent.
Oh please. Current administration? Please do some research. It’s been in effect for 5 months. It takes time for legislation to have an impact.
Exactly why I also added taxes, costs and expenses. It's not just "hey they are just greedy".
This whole socialism idea is really brainwashing people to not understand basic economics. Yes Greed def exists... But the market determines what is fair value... If they can get another business to pay their rent/lease... Then the market wins because there is a buyer. Please don't fall for the socialism progranda.

The current administration is prioritizing restaurants including seeking year-round street dining.
But not focusing on local shops and businesses.
EV is very desirable neighborhood now. Never-ending increasing money supply leads to this. Places like eastern Europe, and China were non factors 50 years ago
Now their economies injecting billions, if not trillions into the world economy. Add to that rise in world population And this is where we are and it’s going to get worse
It is a capitalist country after all, free market, supply and demand, and such.
Those endless complaints, like decades long business didn't close before the 20's, the 10's, the 00's. It's New York, it's always changing, for better and worst. Businesses close and businesses open. Cycle of life.
Legislation is done by City Council, not by an administration.
greed is not the primary factor....lol
lmao "the cycle of life". "better and worst". read a book instead of shilling for landlords
