The budget pizzeria at 131 Avenue A between St. Mark's Place and Ninth Street quietly closed earlier this summer.
The narrow storefront, which offered $1.50 slices, hot dogs, and other quick eats, has remained shuttered in recent weeks.
More recently, a 14-day rent demand appeared on the gate, offering some insight into the economics of the tiny space.
According to the notice, the tenant, Maitre USA Corp. d/b/a Dollar Pizza, owed the landlord more than $26,000 in rent and other charges. The notice lists the monthly rent as $4,057.46.
The notice also includes additional charges, including water and late fees.
The shop started selling 99-cent slices opened in the summer of 2020.
Somewhere along the line, they raised their prices by 51 cents

Sorry, these pizzas are not healthy at all and not even good for the gut. Be careful with these.
They’d have to sell like $75 slices a day, just to pay the rent alone. Not to mention wages, expenses, etc.
2,705 slices a month to pay the rent at $1.50 per slice. Good luck with that.
Yea the math does not add up to run a successful pizza joint - best to just walk away and forget it ever happened
In my pompous and not-asked-for opinion this pizza was terrible. But it was one of the first places where my kids bought their own slice. They swore it was the best pizza (probably because they got to buy it) so on many many pizza nights I had to trek over there and buy the whole pie to take home. The kids would tag along, we'd wait in the tiny space for the pie to finish, I'd watch the guys pop the bubbles with their slicer. They'd humor my kids putting the order in, checking with me they got it right. I think they were Bangladeshi, but I may be wrong. Weird to say, but I'm sad to see them go. Not some sort of "what is the neighborhood coming to?" thing. Just...they were here, in our hood, they made it a while throwing dollar slices out to us weirdo EV'ers - sometimes kind, sometimes rowdy (especially on Ave A late at night). They were nice - at least to me - and I have some memories now of arguing with my kids about what is the best pizza place. I hope they are well, and always feel welcome to come back here.

Not my spot, but I'm not pleased to see them go.
Not good pizza, but my dog loved it and would always try to go in there.
