We've been waiting for the online listing to appear to get a better idea of what's being offered here. So far, we haven't spotted the space among JLL's New York retail listings.
The Bean closed this location in May after nearly nine years in business. The cafe opened here in September 2017, taking over the space that St. Mark's Bookshop previously occupied.
Given the size and visibility of the storefront at this prime Third Avenue-Stuyvesant Street corner, we're curious to see what might be next...
I'm surprised that it's been vacant this long. It's a big space. Very popular with students, locals and tourists. It would make a great coffee house... better run than the Bean.... of course.
ReplyDeleteIf NYU prioritized books and learning and intellectual life, rather than maximizing revenue from their (primary) real estate business, they would have kept the bookstore there--was a valuable community resource and viable business.
