Marky Ramone visits ¡Adios Amigos! for Bowery Beat coffee launch

Hey ho, let's espresso? Marky Ramone stopped by ¡Adios Amigos! on the Bowery at First Street Friday evening for the launch of Bowery Beat, a new coffee collaboration with Dark Matter Coffee. 

The roast is available here in bagged coffee and super-caffeinated cold brew cans ... you can also pick it up online. 

According to the organizers, a portion of proceeds from Bowery Beat will support the Bowery Beat Foundation, a recently developed nonprofit initiative focused on preserving and expanding access to music education in public schools, particularly in the face of proposed cuts to arts funding. 

Friday’s event included limited-edition Bowery Beat holiday tins and a Q&A between Ramone and New Noise Magazine (below with the Dark Matters team)...

Ramone also graciously chatted with fans and posed for photos.

¡Adios Amigos! (the name from the 14th and final studio record by the Ramones) celebrated its first anniversary here earlier this month. 

Marky Ramone joined the Ramones in 1978. Over the course of his two stints with the band, he played some 1,700 shows and recorded 10 studio albums.

Openings: Dark Matter Coffee's ¡Adios Amigos! on the Bowery

As we've been reporting (here and here), the Chicago-based Dark Matter Coffee is opening its first NYC outpost on the SE corner of the Bowery at First Street.

And today (Friday!) is the debut of the space, which is going as ¡Adios Amigos! (the name from the 14th and final studio record by the Ramones).

This outpost will serve Dark Matter coffee and other cafe fare and include a Sleep Walk Chocolateria.

The amount of work put into this store was heavy, physically demanding, emotional, and fulfilling in ways that we haven’t felt as a team in years! My eternal gratitude for the whole crew of mighty Chicagoans who have put this work of art together! 

We will be showcasing them and their contributions throughout the next week and beyond! 

New York City, we are elated to be here, and humbled to make coffee for you on the Bowery! This shop will be also showcasing our sister brand @sleepwalkchocolateria making chocolate in our first open kitchen concept along with a gradual rollout of some savory and sweet food program! 

Hours: Monday-Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a 7 a.m. start on Saturdays and Sundays.

Former SW corner occupants Blue & Cream relocated its flagship outpost to 409 Bleecker St. in early 2023 after 15 years on the Bowery.

Awning alert on the Bowery as Dark Matter Coffee's new cafe comes into view

Dark Matter's cafe on the Bowery at First Street will be called ¡Adios Amigos!

Awnings arrived for the respected coffee roaster on the SE corner late last week. They had a sneak preview of the space on Saturday... with a livestream of the International Chocolate Awards World Finals (Dark Matter was nominated for its Sleep Walk chocolate — and they won a Gold, Silver, and two Bronze.)

Dark Matter started on Chicago's west side in 2007, and there are now multiple locations (not to mention an online shop). 

Once open, this outpost will serve Dark Matter coffee and other cafe fare and include a Sleep Walk Chocolateria.

Dark Matter, founded by Jessie Diaz, is known for its music-inflected, irreverent branding and transparent sourcing practices built on direct relationships with Latin American farmers. 

We haven't seen anything official about this... but given its location a block south of the former CBGB, ¡Adios Amigos! is likely taking its name from the 14th and final studio record by the Ramones.
