Don’t shoot the 'Messenger'

 

Brooklyn-based Chanel Beads release its second full-length record on June 26 (via Jagjaguwar, and yes, the album title is the same as its debut). 

Ahead of that is the single from Shane Lavers and company called "Song for the Messenger."

A very Banshee Christmas

 

A Christmas classic to share... here is Siouxsie and the Banshees, featuring Robert Smith looking as if he's in a Lost World on the cymbals, covering a traditional French Christmas carol called "I'l Est Né Divin Enfant" ("He is born, the divine child.") 

The cover was a B-side released in 1982.

We've been enjoying Die Spitz's debut album Something to Consume, now out on Third Man Records.

Shake the disease

 

The London-based High Vis are on tour this fall, with a stop at Warsaw in Brooklyn on Oct. 9.

What a swell party this is

 

Heading back to 1990 for this Friday-at-5 selection... with Debbie Harry and Iggy Pop covering Cole Porter's "Well, Did You Evah!" for the compilation album Red Hot + Blue, released as part of a HIV/AIDS benefit project. 

The single was never released in the United States, although it peaked at 42 on the UK Singles Chart.

'Star' power

 

On Tuesday, The Slackers released a new single, "My Last Star," a collaboration with and tribute to Greg Lee. The co-lead singer of stalwart L.A. ska group Hepcat died in March 2024 after a brain aneurysm. He was 53. 

As you'll see in the above clip, the NYC-based band filmed parts of the video in the East Village, including the stage at Otto's Shrunken Head on 14th Street.
