A note from Benny, the full-size bed frame

As spotted yesterday on Third Street between Avenue C and Avenue D (thanks to Ayo Harrington for the photos). 

The heart-tugging note reads: 

Please .... help me! 

My mom said I'm old enough to leave home so here I am looking at you but I'm only 3 years old! She said she's tired of making my bed and bided me farewell today, Dec 14, 2024. I know she still loves me because she even put mittens on me. Listen, I still have a lot to offer. I'm sturdy, dependable, and free. But, I'm so cold now and really don't want to go to a shelter. Please take me home with you. I love you!

A lobby note on 7th Street

An EVG reader shared this note from a lobby in a building along Seventh Street... where a resident is asking neighbors about a missing delivery — an air conditioner. 

The resident added on to the original note, stating that the A/C was left in the vestibule. 

In answer to the question, Anyone know what happened to it? ... someone else wrote: 

Well, let's see... 

• A big box with the words "air conditioner" all over it 

• Visible from the street on a hot day 

-- Maybe aliens beamed it up?

If this AC could talk

Notes for Apt. #2

An EVG reader shared this photo of two notes from the lobby of an undisclosed East Village building... both missives are directed to the resident(s) of Apt. #2 about the use of the fire escape.

 Note No. 1:

Hey, Apt. #2. A fire escape is not a terrace. I understand you need to smoke outside. Really. But listening to your experience of body issues and freshman year in Italy dealing with pasta is really dull. People in this building work early in the morning. S.T.F.U. Thank you. ❤️

The note writer in the second missive is now more agitated.

Day after day. Hearing your difficulites with life when you are spoiled brats is awful. Stop making hard working people listen to your crap. Move back with your jefk off Boomer parents in NJ, CT or LI. TY

It's not right to leave your dog poop in the backyard for Raymond to clean up. Please develop better manners.

Today in neighbors being neighborly

Spotted on a car windshield on Second Street at Avenue B:

"Just wanted to inform you that you have a rat in your car! Sorry about that : ( Your neighbors."

And it's not even the summer yet. By August the rat might be driving.

Tuesday's parting shot

EVG contributor Stacie Joy spotted this thank-you note — written on a Whole Foods bag — on Second Avenue at Fourth Street... the note is dated Friday. 

It reads in part: "To the kind person who loaned me money at Whole Foods last night. I want to repay you, but I've lost your name and phone number." 

The letter writer then says the manager (Mahanie???) has an envelope with the money at Nomad at Second Avenue. 

"Thank you again and tell Mahanie to call me if you'd like to have a drink."

An EVG reader shares this Urban Etiquette Sign from a building on Ninth Street... which asks the occupant to please be considerate of other tenants (tennants!)... Why?

Chair notes

Some discarded chair signage from today on 10th Street and Second Avenue... some concern about the fate of this seat...



The first note reads: "Chair is for overnight security. Do not take it. Do not throw it away."

And the second note: "Security guards that use the chair, please put it back where it belongs!!!"

An EVG reader shared this "visitation paradox" from the lobby of a residential building on 12th Street... likely from the Department of the Landlord Department.

The last word, perhaps, about Nobletree Coffee's closure on 2nd Avenue and St. Mark's Place

The Nobletree Coffee closure saga continues here on Second Avenue and St. Mark's Place. After five-plus months in business, Nobletree Coffee abruptly closed on May 30.

According to a note from Nobletree, they were forced to close "because of the slow foot traffic at this location."

That reason didn't sit well with at least one person, who left this note on the door early last week:

"Please don't blame the neighborhood for slow foot traffic. Maybe it was your mediocre coffee and bad service?

Well, that note didn't sit well with at least one other person, who then placed this note on the door...

East Village resident to note maker: Be real. The coffee was good. But the rents are too high!

To note maker. Please speak for yourself. Do not include the "EV residents" on your personal experience!!

Given the busy corridor here, that reason left some residents rolling their eyes.

And now someone has added their own note to the Nobletree storefront (thanks to EVG reader Todd O'Brien for the photo!) ...
