325 E. 10th St. facing year-long gut renovation

An EV Grieve reader and fourth-generation resident of East 10th Street told me that 325 E. 10th St. (a few doors west of the Tompkins Square Library branch) is now undergoing a year-long gut renovation...(and there's another building behind here that's only accessible through 325...)

And bicyclists here should be warned about the dumpster in the street...

The reader passed along the photo below...

Somehow, according to the sign, the year-long renovation here will make all of our lives better...

By the way, apartments in this building were on the market as summer rentals last year.

  1. Ah, the memories! A ground-floor pad (barely big enough for a bed and dresser and stove, though it did have a real bathroom) in the rear building at 325 was my first EV home.

It was the summer of 1968, and I moved in with my then boyfriend, a writer for the East Village Other. We didn't last long, or stay there long: place too tiny, fought all the time about other stuff. But I do remember that back courtyard and the hallway through the cellar we had to traverse to get there...

  2. Thanks for the comment, HippieChick. I had no idea there was another back there until the reader told me the other day...
