Back in February we wondered how long before the old red booths were removed at the now-shuttered Telephone Bar on Second Avenue...
Now East Village Feed (via Eater) has the answer... they were removed today as work on the new frat bar continues.... a reader said the booths will be sold at an auction.

What's coming to The Telephone Bar space? Some fratty debauchery, perhaps
According to nymag:
ReplyDeleteDown the Hatch manager Mike Dauplaise tells us that when the bar opens in July, it will be the “biggest bar out of the six we currently run” (others include Jake’s Dilemma, the Stumble Inn, Off the Wagon, and the Gin Mill).
It’ll serve “very similar pub fare to what we have” (cheese-stuffed burgers, for one), the décor will be similar to the other bars (“lots of TVs”), and there’ll be an emphasis on sports and nightly drink specials.
So yes, more fratty debauchery.
Sell phones - HA!
ReplyDeletethat has become a block to avoid at all costs.
ReplyDeleteDamn, I was hoping the phones would be left in place as mere kitchy decor.
ReplyDeleteI thought they put bunks in the phonebooths for people to sleep it off...
